Description

1 curved latch, pivoted at UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VILLIAM T. JENKS, OF TOLEDO, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT lIN KEY-RINGS.
To all whom t may concer/n:
Beit known that I, WILLIAM T. JENKs, of of Lucas and State of Figure l is a side View of my improved key-n ring, showing it opened. Fig. 2 is a side View of the same, showing it closed. Fig. 3 is a section of the same on the line C C, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in a key-ring, formed, as toits main portion, of one piece of metal, bent into a circular form, with its ends nearly meeting, and, as to its supplementary part, of a pivoted clasp, which ts in a depression formed by notching said ends, so that it will perfectly coincide with the inner and outer edges of the ring, and thus form smooth or continuous surfaces, as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, the letter A represents a ring of round or at metal, of suitable size and in one piece, and so made that its ends a b nearly meet, though not quite. B is a d to the ring, near one end of the same, and made U-shaped in cross-section, as shown in Fig. 3, so that it will, when folded over the ends of the ring, as in Fig. 2, embrace and close the same and cover their sides. The end portions of the ring are slightly notched on the outer edges, as shown in Fig. 1, to allow the clasp to sink in as far as possible, and to leave no projection around the periphery of the ring, as indicated in Fig. 2.
This construction of ring will permit of convenient opening and closing, and is furthermore inexpensive. Besides this, it will not catch upon or materially Wear the pocket in which it may be carried, and has no shoulders or other projections of such a character as to en` gage with the key-bows, or cause them to become entangled or bunched,7 as is frequently the case with other rings of this class.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new and improved article of rnanutacture, the key-rin g herein described, formed of the circular piece A, cut out or notched at the ends, and the clasp B, pivoted thereto at d, and adapted to complete the circle when closed, in the manner described.
WILLIAM T. JENKS.
