The circuit wire 6 leading from the plate tery and solenoid and similarly the wire? is connected to the wire 10, but by reason of the fact that the ribs 5 to which the wire 7 is contacted are insulated from the plates 3 on which the wires 6 are contacted, no current normally flows through the wires 6 and (,therefore leaving the circuit between the battery and the solenoid closed. 7
Referring now to Fig. 2, a semaphore standard shown at 30 of ordinary construction and carrying .an ordinary semaphore arm 31 is shown. This'semaphore is of the type. commonly used at the entrance of each block on a railway system. An arm 32 ex tends at an angle outwardly from the semaphore arm 31 and upon the outer extremity of the arm 32 is mounted a comb member 33, which comb member carries a plurality 'offlexible contact fingers 34c. The contact fingers'are arranged in such a way that it will be impossible for the comb to pass over one of the series of contact plates carrying the ribs 5, without contacting with two or more of the ribs 4 and 5.
