Description
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIOE.
CHARLES E. LOCKWOOD, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT lN LUNCH-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,651, dated February 11, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. LooKwoon, of Bridgeport, county of Fairfleld, State of Connecticut, have invented an Improved Lunch and Variety Box, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in the arrangement of the outer case with one side open, and around the edges of which a grooved flange is formed, in which the cover slides; the arrangement of a canteen, drawers, and cleats, by which both are kept in a desired position, and any drawer can be taken out or put back without interfering with the others.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a front View with cover removed. Fig. 2 is an end view, showing the'drawers and canteen. Fig. 3 is a top View, showing the upper drawer and the groove-flange in which I slide the cover.
Description.
The outer case a a is of tin or other sheet metal, withtop, ends, bottom, andbacksoldered and seamed together. Around the edges of ends and bottom of the open side a grooved flange, I) b, is formed, by turning the tin first outwardly, at a right angle to ends, then back around a former thick enough for the edge of cover to slide in free. 0 c are cleats for the governed by the depth of the drawers. A B C D show the face of drawers, and the canteen, with the rings for pulling them out. The upper drawer is divided into three partsx is for knife and fork, y and w for salt and pepper. The drawer C is made deep enough for eggs. D, the canteen, is gaged to hold one quart, and has a stopper with a ground or packed joint, and is fluid-tight. The front E is of a thick plate of tin or sheet metal, and has the rib d d around its outer edge on face, allowing for the depth of groove. This rib keeps the front stiff and true. The top edge is turned over and covers the joint H. l is the handle, soldered to the top, by which the box is carried.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Alunch or variety box with casing con structed as shown, and arranged with sliding drawwitnesses.
