To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, Moses S. OKUN, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Power Apparatus, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to power apparatus, and the object thereof is to provide an apparatus of this class involving an ordinary rotary turbine wheel driven by water under steam pressure, and which employs the same water over and over again; a further object being to provide an apparatus of the class specified which is simple in construction and economical in operation, and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in an apparatus of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my invention are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which 2- v Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved power apparatus part of the construction being in section Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1; v

In the practice of my invention, as shown Thetank 11 is connected with the turbine casing 10 by apipe 10 and said tank is also provided with an air drum 12 which extends through the top thereof and above the same.

The tanks 8 and 11 are connected byua pressure pipe 2 preferably contracted at 3 to form a narrow throat, and the end 2 thereof is enlarged and extends into the tank 11, while the opposite end 1 is enlarged and communicates with the tankt8,-and
said tank 8 is provided, at the end thereof with which the pipe 2 communicates with a supplemental steamdrum 6 with which is connected a pipe 15 provided with a valve I also provide 'asteamsupply pipe 1 which may be connected with a steam boiler or other steam generator, and which extends into the tank 11 in line with .the pipe'2, and
which is-preferably. contracted where it enters said tank to form a narrow throat 1*, and the end of which within the tank 11 is enlarged, as shown at 1*, and opens into the enlarged end 2 of the pipe2;
The tank 8 is also provided with a pipe 13 -which extends downwardly thereinto through the top thereof and is provided with a valve 13. i v In the operation of this. apparatus the desired amount of water is admitted to the tank 11 through the pipe 1 1 so as to partially fill said tank, as shown in Fig. 3, leaving a compress-airspace 11 in the top of the drum 12. Water may also be admitted through the pipe 13 .into the tank 8 so as to partially fill the same, as shown in Fig. 2, and form a compressed airspace .8 in the top of said tank and ,8" in the drum 7 If, now, it isdesired to operate theturbine, the entire apparatus is filled with water and steam'is passed through the pipe 1 and passes out fromthe expansion nozzle 1 under high expansion and high velocity, and this sets the water in the tube 2 in motion, and this water and steam are forced through the pipe 2 into the tank 8, and this places the water in the tank 8 under com: pression, and it is forced through the pipe 9 and the turbine casing 10 and the pipe 10 and back into the casing 11, and this operation rapidly rotates the turbine wheel and shaft 16,, and said operation may be continued, as long as, desired. It will be understood that in the above operation the steam is discharged into the pipe 2 under high velocity, this result being accomplished by the pressure of the boiler, and the form of the pipes 1 and 2, and this steam, after setting the water in the tube 2 in motion, is again partially compressed and partially condensed,'and the water in the tank 8 is subjected to this pressure and this produces a continuous flow through the tube 2, the tank 8, and the turbine casing 10 and back into the tank 11 which serves as the supply reservoir. 4
In the filling of the tank 8 with water, thetop of the drum 7 is filled with compressed air, and in the above described operation there will be a greater or less collect-ion of steam in the top 8 of said tank, and this steam may be exhausted in any manner either through a suitable vent or through the pipe 15, or this steam may be passed, or pumped back, to the boiler. and the construction of the tank 8 and the drum 7 pre-' vents steam from entering or passing through the pipe 9 to the turbine, and said turbine is operated in the mannerof other water turbines, and any suitable water motor may thus be operated.
I also prefer in practice, to make the tube 2 as long as possible, or as long as conditions will permit, for'the reason that the efiiciency of the operation of said tube depends to a great extent upon the 'length thereof, as well as upon the form thereof and the method of discharging-the steam thereinto.
If, at any time,a new supply of water is desired, it may be introduced by the pipe 14, or through the pipe 13, and if, at any time it is desired to drain the apparatus, or reduce the water therein, said water may be discharged through the pipe 19'.
The pipe 13 may also be used for'taking water out of the tank 8 if the same is de sired for any purpose, during the operation, of the apparatus, and in practice, the pipe 15 may be carried back to the engine or boiler that produces the steam which is applied to the apparatus through the pipe 1.
My improved power-apparatus may be used wherever apparatus of this class is desired, and changes in and modifications of the construction herein described, may be made, within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A power apparatus of the character described, comprising a pressure tank, which contains water under pressure, an injector to supply water into the same, means to supply water and steam to the injector, means to communicate to the water in the same a suflici ent velocity which will force the said water and the uncondensed steam from the said injector into the said pressure tank and a water motor operated by the water from the pressure tank.

A power apparatus of the character described, comprising a pressure tank, which contains waterunder pressure, an injector to supply water into the same, means to supply water and steam to the said injector, means to communicate to the water in the same a suflicient velocity which will force the said water and the uncondensed steam from the said inj ector into the pressuretank, a water motor operated by the water from the pressure tank, and means to supply again the water discharged from the water motor to the injector.
3. A power apparatus of the-character described, comprising a pressure tank which contains water-under pressure, an injecting tube to supply water to the same, means to supply water and steam to the injecting'tube, said injecting tube being so arranged asto permit a great expansion ofsteam which will communicate a suflicient velocity to the water in theinjecting tube as to force the said water and the uncondensed steam from the same into the pressure tank, a water motor operated by the water from the pressure tank and means to supply again the Water discharged from the water motor to the injeeting tube.
4. A power apparatus of the character described comprising a pressure tank, which contains water under pressure, an injecting tube to supply water to the same,a diverg-.
-1ng steam nozzle which discharges steam at a very high velocity into said injecting tube, said diverging steam nozzle and said in ecting tube, being of such arrangement as to permit a great expansion of steam, as to comtank in communication with the discharge thereof, a pressure tank in communication with the inlet thereof, said water supply tankand said pressure tank being connected -water supply tank connecting with the discharge, a pressure tank connected with the inlet, a steam pressure pipe connecting said tanks, and a steam supply pipe provided with a nozzle which discharges into the end of said pipe which communicates with the supply tank.
11 a power apparatus of the class described, the combination of a turbine wheel casing having an inlet and a discharge, a water supply tank connected with the dis charge, a pressure tank connected with the inlet, a steam pressure pipe connecting said tanks, and a steam supply pipe provided with a nozzle which discharges into the end of said pipe which communicates with the supply tank, said pressure pipe, and said steam supply pipe being both contracted to form narrow throats whereby water and steam passing through said pressure pipe are compressed and steam passing through said steam supply pipe expanded.
8. A power delivery device of the character described, comprisinga water supply tank, means to introduce steam flowing at a high velocity into said tank, a pressure pipe connected with the same and into which the flowing steam is discharged, a pressure tank filled with water under pressure and into which the water from the'supply tank is forced through the pressure pipe, water motor operated by the water supplied from the pressure tank, and means to discharge the water from the water motor into the supply tank, substantially as described.
9. In the apparatus of the class described, the combination of a pressure tank divided into two chambers which communicate withone another one of the said chambers is charged on the top with OOIIIPIGSSBCLZHI and is connected with the power delivery device,
the second chamber being connected with the water supply tank, substantially as described.
10. A power apparatus of the character described, comprising a pressure tank, which contains water under pressure, and an air tight water supply tank, a channel connecting both tanks, means .to supply steam to the said channel to force the water from the water supply tank into the pres sure tank, a water motor operated by the water from the pressuretank, and means to supply again the water discharged from the water motor to the water supply tank.
11. A power apparatus of the character described, comprising a water supply tank and a pressure tank, which contains water under pressure, a channel or pipe. connecting both tanks, a steam pipe directly connected to the supply tank andwhich discharges steam into said connecting channel, a water motor operated by the water from the pressure tank and means to supply again the water dischar ed from the water motor to the supply tan 12. A power apparatusof the character described, comprising a water supply tank and a pressure tank,an injector connecting both'tanks, means to supply steam to the injector, means to communicate to the water in the same a suflicient velocity which will force the uncondensed steam and water from said injector into the pressure tank, a water motor operated by the water from the pressure tank,and means to supply again the water discharged from the water motor to the water supply tank.

A power apparatus of the class described, comprising a water supply tank, means to introduce steam flowing at a high velocity into said tank, a pressure pipe connected with the water supply tank, and into which the flowing steam is discharged, a water pressure tank filled with water under pressure and into which the water from the water supply tank is forced through the pressure pipe, water motor operated by the water from the pressure tank, means to prevent the steam accumulated in the pressure tank from passing into the water motor, and means to supply the water discharged from the water engine to the water supply tank, substantially as described.
14. A power apparatus of the character described, comprising a water supply tank, means to introduce steam flowing at a high velocity into said tank,a pressure pipe or channel into which the flowing steam is discharged, said pressure pipe connects the water supply tankwith a. water pressure tank, which contains water under pressure and into which water is forced from the water supply tank through the pressure pipe, said water pressure tank is divided into two compartments, which communicate with one another, one of which compartments is charged with compressed air at the top and is connected with water motor, substantially as described.
15. A power apparatus of the character described, comprising a water supply tank, means to introduce steam flowing at a high velocity into said tank, a pressure pipe or channel into which the flowing steam is discharged, said pressure pipe connecting the water sup ly tank with a water pressure tank, whic contains water under pressure, and into which water is forced from'the water supply tank through the pressure pipe, means to communicate to the water in the same a suflicient velocity which will force the uncondensed steam from the said presing into the water motor, means to supply 'the water discharged from the water motor again to the water supply tank, substantially as described.
16. A power apparatus of the character described, comprising a water pressure tank,
which contains water under pressure, a wa ter motor operated by the water from the same, an injector to force water into the same, means to supply water and steamto the injector, means to communicate to the water in the said injector a sufficient velocity which will force the uncondensed steam and water from the same into the water pressure tank, whereby the steam in: the said pressure tank is directed to the top, while the water operating the water motor is supplied from the bottom of the same, means to supply again the water discharged from the water motor to the injector.

A power apparatus of the character described, comprising a pressure tank which contains water under pressure,-an injector to force water into the same, an air-tight water supply tank and a steam supply to supply water and steam to the injector, means to communicate to the water in the same a suflicient velocity which will force the said water and the uncondensed steam from the said injector into the water pressure tank, a water motor operated by the water from the said pressure tank, means to supply again the water discharged from the water motor to the water supply tanln 18. A power apparatus of the character described, comprising an injector, means to introduce steam and a stream of water into the same, a water pressure tank, which contains water under pressure and into which water and uncondensed steam is forced from the said injector, said pressure tank being divided into two compartmentswhich communicate with one another at the bottom, one of said compartments being connected with the injector, the other compartment being charged on the top with compressed air, and connected with water motor,-means to supply again the water discharged from the water motor to the injector, substantially as described. o

A power apparatus of the character described, comprisinga pressure tank which contains water under pressure, said pressure tank being divided into two compartments vhich communicate with one another, one of said compartments being connected with communicates with an injector, which forces water into the pressure tank, means to supply water and steam to the injector, substantially as described.

A power apparatus of the character described, comprising a pressure tank, which contains water under pressure, an injector to supply water into the same, means to supply water and steam to the injector, means to communicate to the water in the same a sufiicient velocity which will force the said water and the uncondensed. steam from the said injector into the said pressure tank, a water motor operated by the water from the pressure tank, means to prevent the steam accumulated in the pressure tank from passing into the water motor, substantially as described. a

A power apparatus of the character described, comprising a pressure tank, which containswater under pressure, an injector to supply water into the same, means tosupply water and steam to the injector, means to communicate to the water in the same a sufficient velocity which will force the said water and the uncondensed steam from the said injector into said pressure tank, a water motor operated by the water from the pressure tank, means to supply again the water discharged from the water motor to the injector and means to prevent the steam accumulated in the pressure tank from passing into the water motor.
22. A power apparatus of the character described, comprising a pressure tank, which contains water under pressure, an inie-rtor to supply water into the same, means to supply water and steam to the injector, means to communicate to the water in the same a sufiicient velocity which will force said water and the uncondensed steam from the said injector into said pressure tank, a water motor operated by the water from the pressure tank, means to supply again the water discharged from the water motor to the in ector, means to prevent the steam accumulated in the pressuretank from passing into the water motor, and means to dis charge the excess of steam accumulated in the said pressure tank, substantially as described.
