SHOE TIP.
APPLICATION FILED APR. l0, I919.

Marie Kemper war/Mu UniTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARIE KEMPER, OF TOLEDO, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD T0 LORENZO RICHARDS AND ONE-THIRD TO ALICE EDWARDS, BOTH OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF CO- LUMBIA.
, SHOE-TIP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented 001;. 12, 1920.
Application filed April 10, 1919. Serial No. 288,984.
'0 all whomit may concern Be .it known that I, NIARIE Knivirnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in thecounty of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and-useful Improvements in Shoe-Tips, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my said invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive metallic guard for the tips of the soles of shoes and one that may be quickly andconveniently-attached, whereby this part of the sole ordinarily subjected to unusual wear is protected and the'life of the shoe prolonged and its appearance preserved, all as is hereinafter more fully described in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawing which is made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts, i
Figure l is a view of the toe of a shoe showing my improved protecting clip attached to the point of the sole. 7
Fig. 2, an under side view of the same, and
Fig. 3, a perspective view with the clip attached.
The shoe, of course, may be any'boot or shoe of usual construction, but the clip Wlll ordinarily be more generally used upon ladies shoes and shoes of comparatively thin up and adapted to project into the sole to sea cure the clip in place.
In attaching the clip the flange 11 is placed over the tip end of the sole and the plate 10 turned toward and against the under side of the sole, as indicated in Fig.
2, and the brads or points 12, 13 and 14 driven into said sole. A metal form is preferably inside the toe of the shoe and the brads being bent forward slightly the driving of the same against the form serves to further bend them forward and to slightly hook or clench them at their inner ends, thus preventing ready detachment. I
The clip may thus be readily andquickly attached by anyone and a very inexpensive protection for the toe of the'shoe provided and the life of the shoe prolonged and its appearance preserved.
'Having thus-fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A metal tip for protecting'the points of the soles of shoes and that portion of the sole immediately adjacent to said point,
comprising a thin metal plate adapted to be wide with the attaching brads spaced apart on said late, whereby said device is adapted to efhciently protect the tip of the sole, be inconspicuous when in place, and adapt ed to be quickly and conveniently attached, all substantially as shown and described.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Washington, D. (1, this ninth day of April, A. D. nineteen hundred and nineteen.
