To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRED A. CUTBURTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vichita, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Carriers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvementsin supports and more particularly to a device especially adapted for carrying bottles.

An important object of this inventlon s to provide a bottle carrier including a split band adapted for engaging the neck of a bottle directly below the bead of the same and having novel means whereby the band may be readily and securely attached.

A further object of the invention is toprovide a carrier for milk bottles which is simple, desirable in use and cheap to manufacture.

A further object of this invention is to provide a carrier for milk bottles which when applied will not interfere with the filling of the bottle ordispensing the contents of the same and which will greatly convenience the pouring of the milk or other contents from the bottle.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout:

Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a milk bottle having the improved carrier applied thereto,

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary elevation of the milk bottle having the carrier applied, and

Fig. 3 is a perspective of the carrier detached.

In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 generally designates a milk bottle having a neck 6 and" the usual annular bead 7. A cap or disk 8 may be applied to the bottle for closing the upper end of the same after the bottle has been filled.

Specifically, this invention includes a split hand 9 adapted to be arranged about the neck of a bottle directly beneath the bead of the same and is preferably formed from a light flat strip of inetal. When the band 9 is arranged about the bottle neck in engagement Specification of Letters Patent.

The intermediate portion of the split collar or band 9 is provided on its outer side with a U- shaped bracket or attaching device 14 to which one end of a U-shaped bail 15 is connected. As illustrated in Fig. 2, the said end portion of the U-shaped bail 15 is provided with a loop 16 extended through the bracket or staple 14 so that the bail will be nondetachably secured to the band.

lVith reference to Fig. 3, it will be noted that the opposite end portion of the bail is bent upon itself to provide a loop 17 adapted to be detachably connected with the U- shaped keeper or staple 12. The free end portion of the loop 17 is extendedoutwardly as 1ndicated at 18 for forming a tapered guide for one arm of the keeper 12 and is then extended inwardly into contact with the other side of the loop for forming a retaining shoulder 19. The retaining shoulder 19 coacts with the adjacent portion of the bail for normally closing the loop 17 so thatlt is necessary to spring the free end portion 18 of the loop outwardly when it is desired to connect the loop 17 with said keeper.

When it is desired to apply the improved carrier to a bottle, the band is arranged about the neck in engagement with the under side of the bead 7. By reason of the band being split, the end portions of the same may be readily overlapped to permit of the insertion of the keeper 12 through the transverse opening 13. After the keeper 12 has. been inserted through the opening 13, the loop 17 is engaged with said keeper by moving the bail downwardly and upwardly. As the loop is engaged with the keeper, the free end portion 18 of the loop is sprung outwardly to provide an entrance opening for the keeper. W hen one arm of the keeper is received within the loop, the shoulder 18 will close the entrance opening to the 1001) so that the accidental disconnection of the bail with the keeper will be prevented. By this construction the keeper 12 serves a dual function which is: first, as a locking device for the

10 and 11, and secondly, as an attaching member for one end of the bail.

Itis to be understood that the improved carrier may be applied to other bottles than milk bottles and also that such minor changes in arrangement and construction of parts may be made as will remain within the spirit of the invention and the scope of what is claimed.

A carrier for milk bottles including a split band having its end portions overlapped, a keeper carried by one end portion of the band, the other end portion of the band being provided with an opening receiving said keeper thereby connecting the end portions of the band, and a bail having one end portion attached to the intermediate portion of the band and its other end portion provided with a loop adapted for connection with said keeper for securely retaining said keeper extended through said open- 3. A bottle carrier including a split band having its end portions overlapped, a keeper carried by one end portion of the band and extended through the other end portion of the band, and a bail having one end'portion bent upon itself for forming a loop, one side of said loop in contact with the other side oi? the loop for forming a restricted entrance opening, said loop having one side extended outwardly beyond said entrance opening for forming a guideway for said keeper.

4. A bottle carrier including a split band, a keeper carried by one end of the band and detachably connected with the other end of the same, and a bail having one end portion secured to said band and its other end portion detachably connected to said keeper.
