Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
CULTIVATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 5, 1920.
Application filed January 2, 1919. Serial No. 269,177.
To 'all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW LARSEN, a citizen of Norway, residing at Shaunavon, in the Province of Saskatchewan, in the D0- minion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivaors, of which the following is a specificaion.
This invention relates to improvements in cultivators. One object is to provide a simple practical device of this type that is cheap to manufacture and eliicient in operation. With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved cultivator. F Fig 2 is a section taken on line 2-'2 of Like reference characters denote corresponding parts in both views.
The reference numeral 1 denotes the frame.
The rear end of the frame is supported upon a shaft 13 having at its opposite terminations the cranks 14, 14, secured directly to the wheels 15. Castings 16 are pivotally supported upon the cranked ends of the shaft 13 and carry the contracted end 17 of the frame, said end being provided with a cross bar 18 which bar is connected by a bracket 19, at each end, pivotally to the stub shafts 20. Loose upon the stub shafts 20 are the hand levers 21 which work over the racks 22 carried by the frame, said hand levers being formed integral with the links 23 fast upon the shaft 13. Moving the hand levers over the racks 22 oscillates the shaft 13 and cranks 14 and through the medium of castings 16 and brackets 19 raises and lowers the rear end of the frame. The operator from his seat 24 is in easy reach. of the hand levers 21 and he may adjust the rear end of the frame instantly and easily. A box 25 upon the frame 1 may contain a filler 26 to help weight the machine when desired. The knives 8 following' the roller 6 may, by adjusting the frame at the rear,
be caused to cut deep or shallow incisions in the earth without disturbing the operator or stopping the machine. 7hat is claimed is In a cultivator, a frame having a contracted rear end, rear wheels, a shaft at the rear end of said frame, cranks arranged at the ends of said shaft, said cranks being connected directly to said rear wheels, castings connecting the contracted end of said frame and the said cranks, and connection between the contracted end of said frame and the said shaft whereby the latter may be instantly oscillated to raise or lower the said contracted frame end.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANDREW LARSEN.
Witnesses:
