The subjectmatter of this' invention isa roofing tile of the type which is usually com posed of reinforced concrete, Portland cement or the like and is made of sufiicient size and otherwise adapted to be placed'directly upon a'ndfastenedto the purlins.
Thefprimary object of my invention is to I produce a tile having fastening means secured to and cooperating with the under side vof the overlapping portion of a tile to providea socketed seat, open at its rear end, and adapted to receive and form a joint withthe underlying portion of an adjacent tile and also to engage the purlin and fasten the tiles thereto. f v
Another feature of my invention comprises the provisionat opposite ends of each tile "of cooperating, fastening and ahning means of novel form whereby the ends of adjacent tiles may be interlocked and allned with each other andsimultaneously fastened to the purlins. v

Each tile has an underlying marginal portion 3, which is preferably provided with notches 12 in vertical alinement with the fastening devices 1. These notches are adapted tobe engagedby and interlocked with the fastening devices a, the intermediate portions 9, of the two fastening devices 1' entering the notches 12, while the flange 1O bears against the under face of the underlying portion and the inclination of'the flange 10 permits it to take under the flange of the purlin so as to secure the tiles thereto.
A kerf 13 is formed transversely along the under face of the overlapping portion of the tile and this kerf is filled with plastic cement or the like, to assist in the formation of a water tight joint.
The tiles may be laid substantially in the conventional manner, 2'. e. the bottom row first and the next row having the clips secured thereto will be slid over the top edge of the said bottom row so that the intermediate portions of the fastening devices or clips will enter the notches and the free flange portion will bear against the under surface of the underlying portion of the first row and furthermore will engage beneath the flange of the purlin. In the modified form of device shown in Fig. 7, instead of providing a Z-shaped clip,
the shank 1d of a bolt 15, enters and interlooks with the notches 12, while a plate 16 has a hole 17, through which the bolt extends and said plate bears against the under face of the underlying 111L1""1I1?tl1)01'l31011 and engages beneath the flange of the purlin.
In laying tile, having fastening devicesof the character last above described, it is desirable to have a man stationed below the purlins for the purpose of interlocking the bolts 'with the notches and screwing the same home to cause the plates 16 to bear against the under face of the tiles and the flange of the purlins.
The tiles 1, are also preferably provided with. the usual longitudinally-disposed rib 18 at one edge, a roll 18 cooperating with the ribof an adjacent tile, and with an intermediate roll 19, or the like, for the purpose of embracing the cooperating ribs and rolls at the overlapping portions thereof.
Plastic cement or like material may be inserted between the rolls and ribs to assist in forming a tight joint.
Having described my invention, 1 claim: 1. A tlle having a marginal portion at its lower end adapted to form an overlap and a marginal portion at its upper end adapted to underlie an overlapping portion of an adjacent tile; fastening means secured to the under side of said overlapping tile and cooperating with the said marginal overlap to form a socketed seat for the reception of the underlying portion of an adjacent tile; and notches in the upper edge of the underlying portion adapted to interlock with the fastening means on the overlapping portion of an adjacent tile.
2. A tile having a marginal portion at its lower end adapted to form an overlap and a marginal portion at its upper end adapted to underlie an overlapping portion of an adjacent tile and fastening means comprising a nut embedded in the under surface of the tile, a clip spaced from said under surface of the overlap to form a socketed seat for the reception of the upper marginal underlying portion ofan adjacent tile, and a screw cooperating with said embedded nut for varying the width of said socket and fastening the tiles in place.
3. A tile having a marginal portion at its lower end adapted to form an overlap and a marginal portion at its upper end adapted to underlie an overlapping portion of an adjacent tile and fastening means comprising a nut embedded in the under face of the tile, a Z-shaped clip, having a flange spaced from said under face to form a socketed seat for the reception of the upper marginal underlying portion of an adjacent tile, and a screw cooperating with said embedded nut for varying the width of said socket and fastening the tiles in place.

A. tile having a marginal portion at its lower end adapted to form an overlap and a marginal portion at its upper end adapted to underlie an overlapping portion of an adjacent tile, a plurality'of nuts embedded in said tile and projecting to the under surface only, a plurality of fastening clips each secured at one end to one of the said nuts and having its other end free and extending rearwardly to form a socketed seat open at its rear end for the reception of the upper underlying portion of an adj acent tile, and screws cooperating with said embedded nut for varying the width of said socket and fastening the tiles in place.
5. The combination with a purlin having a laterally-proj ecting flange, of atile having a marginal portion at its lower end adapted to form an overlap and a marginal portion at its upper end adapted to underlie an overlapping portion of an adjacent tile and abut against said purlin flange, a nut embedded in said firstmentioned tile and projecting to the under surface only, a fastening clip secured at one end to the said nut and having its other end free and inclining downwardly to form a socketed seat open at its rear end and adapted to resiliently hear of New York in the county of New York 7 against the under face of the underlyingand State of New York this day of April portion of. an adjacent tile and also to en 5 A.
