T 0 all wlr am it may concern Be it known that I, LUKE LotioHmN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Radiator, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invcntion relates to new and useful improvements in radiators for motor vehiclcs.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a radiator which comprises a plurality of individual sections, any one of which may be removed without rendering the radiator wholly inoperative.
\Vith the above and other objects in View, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a radiator constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Referring more specifically to the drawings, the radiator comprises an outer frame 10, which may be of any desired shape. Mounted in the upper portion of the frame 10, is a header section 11, which conforms in shape to that of the upper portion of said frame. The reference characte 12 designates a pipe extension, by means of which the upper header is connected to the water jacket of a motor, not shown, it being understood, of course, that suitable connections may be employed for this purpose.
Mounted in the lower portion of the frame 10, is a. second header l3, and projecting therefrom is a pipe mcmbcr 14-. which serves as the attaci'iing means for the fittings connecting the lower hcader with the Water jacket of the motor.
Projecting from each of the headers 11 and 13 at regularly spaced intervals, are tubular extensions 15, and each of these tubular extensions 15 is provided with a valve or the like 16. This valve 16 serves to cut off all communication of the headers when turned to the closed position, the purpose of Which will be hereinafter described.
The reference character 17 desi mates the radiator sections, and each of t ese comprises two headers 18 and 19 which a e connected together by means of tubular mem hers 20. These tubular members each have radiating vanes or tins attached thereto, and said vanes serve to dissipate the heat contained in the cooling fluid as it passes through the tubular members 20.
Projecting from each of the headers 18 and 19, are tubular members 21, and each of these tubular members 21 is provided with a coupling 22, by means of which it may be detachably connected with the tubular extensions 15 of the headers 11 and 13.

As shown in Fig. 2, a finishing )late 25 may be secured to the outer face 0 the radialer to also serve for maintaining the radiator sections 17 in place.
By providing a construction such as above described, it is clearly apparent that should any one of the radiator sections 17 become damaged, it may he removed by merely loosening its respective couplings 22 and closing the correspondin valves 16 in the tubular extensions 15. fter this has been done, the radiator section damaged may be removed for the purpose'of repair, and in the meantime, the radiat'o'rmay be used with its efiiciency but slightly decreased. Thus it will be seen that the present invention provides a radiator in which one or more sections thereof may be removed for the urpose of repair Without totally incapacitatthe radiator. laving thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A radiator comprising two headers arranged in spaced relation, tubular extensions arranged in spaced relation on each of said headers, the tubular extensions on one header being opposed to the tubular extensions on the other header, in dontrolling valve mounted in each of said tuBIular extensions,
and a radiating element car ,ed by each pair of opposed extensions and removably cured thereto.
