T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I EDWARD J. PAQUE, a citizen of the United tates of America,-and' a resident of Cincinnati, in the'county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Forming Forgings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a method and apparatus for forming objects, of varying diameter and with external walls which are located in various planes, froma piece of stock metal which is of substantially uni-,
form diameter and with practically vertical external Walls.
My invention relates particularly to, the

The apparatus embodying my mventlon comprises upper and lower dies A, B, punch D, removable stop block E, and a press upon the base F of whichthe lower die is mounted Fig, 6, but showing the position of theparts which they article from on the ejector k, the laten F is lowered and by the upper platen F of which the upper die and the" punch are carried. Below the bore 1) the die member B has a T slot 6 upon the shoulders of which a pin 72 of ejector arm 70 is adapted to seat. Upon the opposite sides of the die B there are pivotally mounted U shaped arms M which are adapted to engage the upperdie member A in the act of stripping the punch and the upper die from the article which has been formed.
The upper die A has in ita central recess a and a central bore adapted to fit over the punch D When the punch is in its retracted position, as shown in Fig. 7, its end forms with the walls of the upper die a die chamber which is the. complement of the die chamber formed by the upper face of the ejector and the walls of the recess 6, so that" when the upper and lower dies are in con-.

In carrying out my process, the upper die serted between the shoulder d and the up per die, a piece of 'stock metal, such as the cylindrical piece H, having been placed so that its lower endrests within recess 1) and of the finished article, with the exception that the corners thereof are left in a rounded mounted upon one of the diemembers and:
unfinished condition, such as-shown in Fig. 4. -Then removable stop block E is removed and the die punch D is lowered so that it forms a central 7 recess in the article to be formed and the metal'thus displaced from the center of the article forces the metal at the rounded corners of the article outward so as to fill the spadeslin the die, so asto.

This will cause the punch and the upper die to be sep arated from the article and to eject the article-lwhich falls into the bottom of the press. To eject the article therefrom lever 72 is actuated.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1 1. In an apparatus for formingmetal the combination of a lower die member having a recess conforming to the shape of the walls of a part of the article to be formed, an upper die \member having a central recess andadapted to cooperate with the recess in the lower die member to form a die chamberof the shape of the article to be manufactured, a punch seated in therecess in the upper die member and a removable stop block adapted to hold the punch in a retracted position.

In an apparatus for forming metal forgings the combination of upper and lower die members having cooperating" re- 'cesses which form-a die chamben of the shape of.the article to be formed, a punch reciprocally mounted in one of the die members and adapted to force a recess in the article to be manufactured, and strippers adapted to engage the other diemember.
