This invention relates to that class of slicing machines in which the slicing blade has a slow movement through the material and a simultaneous short and rapid vibration during such slow movement, an example of which constitutes the subject matter of my prior application for patent, Serial No. 327,061, filed September 29,1919.
The present improvement, has for its various objects To provide a structural formation and association of parts whereby the above mentioned sin .ultaneous slow movement. and rapid vibratory movement are imparted to the slicing blade or head in the active movement of the same in a ubstantial and effective manner.

To provide simple and effective automatically operating mechanism for feeding the material operated on after each slicing operation and during the inactive or up stroke of the slicing blade. Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the horizontal bed plate of the machine carriedby a hollow supporting base 2, and provided with the usual fixed side abutment plate or flange 3.
4, designates a pair of vertical guides preferably of the rod type shown, and fixed to the base 2 in transverse spaced relation to constitute guides for the slicer blade carriage of the machine.

In a slicing machine, the combination of a supporting base, a slicing head ar ranged transversely of said base, means for imparting movement in a vertical plane to said head, the same comprising in part a rotary shaft mounted beneath said bed, and having carrying shaft, and means intermediate of said carrying shaft and the afore said rotary shaft for imparting a step by step rotation to said feed wheel, the same comprising a cam on said rotary shaft, a movable bar receiving movement from said cam and carrying an operating pawl, and. a ratchet wheel carried by the shaft of the feed wheel and having operative engages ment with said pawl.

In a slicing machine, the combination of a supporting base, a slicing head arranged transversely of said base, means for imparting movement in a vertical plane to said head, the same comprising in part a rotary shaft mounted beneath said bed, a serrated feed wheel projecting through a slot in said bed and having a carrying shaft, and means intermediate of said carrying shaft and the aforesaid rotary shaft for imparting a step by step rotation to said feed wheel, the same comprising a cam on said rotary shaft, a movable bar receiving movement from said cam. in one direction, a spring tending to move said bar in the opposite direction, a pawl cs ried by said movable bar, and a ratchet wheel carried by the shaft of the feed wheel and having operative engagement with said pawl.

In a slicing machine, the combination of a supporting base, a slicing head arranged transversely of said base, means for imparting movement in a vertical plane to said head, the same comprising in part a rotary shaft mounted beneath said bed, a serrated feed wheel projecting through a slot in said bed and having a carrying shaft, and means intermediate of said carrying shaft and the aforesaid rotry shaft for imparting a step by step rotation to said feed wheel, the same comprising a cam on said rotary shaft, a movable bar receiving movement from said cam in one direction, a spring tending to move said bar in the opposite direction, a pawl carried by said movable bar, a ratchet wheel carried by the shaft of the feed wheel and having operative engagement with said pawl, and a stepped stop arranged in the path of said movable bar and adapted by an adjustment of parts to regulate the movement of the movable bar toward the aforesaid rotary shaft.
15. in a slicing machine, the combination of a supporting base, a slicing head arranged transversely of said base, means for imparting movement in a vertical plane to said dead, the same comprising in part a rotary shaft mounted beneath said bed, aserrated feed Wheel projection through a slot in said bed and having a carrying shaft, and means intermediate of said carrying shaft and the aforesaid rotary shaft for imparting a step by step rotation to said feed wheel, the same comprising a cam on said rotar shaft, a movable bar receiving movement from said cam in one direction, a spring tending to move said bar in the opposite direction, a pawl carried by said movable bar, a stem carried by said movable bar and having at its outer end a revoluble stop head, and a stepped'stop arranged in the path of the stop head and adapted to regulate the movement of the movable bar toward the aforesaid rotary shaft.
