coperate with a board or target in play.
ing algame; said device when manipulated by the stick and string also having certain peculiar movements and being adapted to be utilized as a toy or amusement device.
The objects of this invention are, to pro- `vide a game 'in which a peculiarly novel projectile is provided for coperation with a board or target; to rovide a peculiarly novel creepy device which may be drawn or moved across various surfaces, and when so moved will tend to remain in an upright position, although producing particularly novel movement effects; and, in general, to provide such an improved toy or game as will appear more fully-from the following description.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating this invention:
Figure l is a plan view of a board or target;
Fig. 2 is a front view of the projectile or movable member with the stick and string attached thereto; and
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through the toy.
As illustrated in these drawings, f represents the toy, which may be used as a projectile or which may be actuated by means of a stick 5 and string 6. The toy i comprises a substantially cylindrical body or base 7, which is made of -any Vsuitable material, but which is preferably made of comparatively soft rubber. The bottom 8 may be made flat or may be slightly beveled, as indicated at 9, or otherwise formed. A piece of cloth or felt 10 is secured to the top of the body portion and preferably extends some distance beyond the sides of the same. This felt member may conveniently be made rectangular, and the string 6 is preferably attached, as indicated at l1, adjacent to one edge thereof. A guide vane is applied to the base, this vane preferably comprising a feather 12, which is inserted in a hole 13 through the felt and into the base. This feather may be secured in any desired manner, but l prefer to bend the end of the quill back a short distance to form a barb, and then by means of a suitable tool, press the end into the hole, as indicated in Fig. 3, so that the barb or VeX- treme end of the quill will tend to hold the same in position. The unique features of this device may be further accentuated by applying faces or images 14 to the feather in the manner indicated. ll! hen this device is thrown or actuated by means of the stick and string, it may be given a peculiar flying movement, and if allowed to alight on a surface, it will tend to stand in upright position. The string (l is preferably woven or treated with some stiffening material, so that it will not tend to wind around the device or become entangled. W hen thedevice is drawn along the floor or other horizontal surface, it will have a peculiar wabbly upright movement, which tends to furnish much amusement. The de vice may also be drawn up over vertical, or substantially vertical, surfaces, and 'in this instance will appear to be walking or creeping up the same, and by drawing the string, for instance over the edge 'of a table, and pulling the device up, it will appear to be climbing up the side and over the edge on to the top. i
When the device is to be utilized in playing a game, a target or board, such as shown` in F ig. l, is provided, having certain spots or figures which are intended to count any predetermined amounts, for instance, as indicated on the drawing. f Some of these figures may be made indifferent colors in` order to add to the attractiveness of the game. The board or target is preferably lflaced in a horizontal position, and the toy may be thrown as a projectile with a view of making it alight on predetermined spots; or it may be manipulated by means of the stick and string, the player trying to throw the device so that it will land on the spots indicated.
It will be noted that this toy may be made in various forms in order to embody the principles of this invention, and the board or target may be constructed in any suitable manner so as t0 conform to the arrangement herein described, and therefore Ido not wish to be limited to the exact construction-herein set forth, except y:is specilied in the following chunis7 in which l claim; 1.1% toy comprising 21. short resilient bese h nving anV upwardly projecting vane of light material,
i2. A toy comprising e substantially cylin-v drii-ol vbuse Yformed oi. rubber, piece of telt seclired'to the upper sur'i'ioce of said bese :ind extending beyond the sides thereofA e sufficient dista-nce so that the center of grovity Will be below the piece of felt, and a feather having one end secured in said base. f 3. toy or the like comprising a substantially cylindrical body formed of rubber and having e slightly ioncave lower surface, a piece of sti-'lic cloth secured lto the upper surface of the body and projecting therefrom, o fea-ther hovinggone end secured in said body .and projecting upwardly there from7 a. string attached tothe outer edge of seid cloth, and a. stick to which the opposite Y end of the string is attached.
4L. Atoy' construction comprising a rubber body having 'substantially fiat upper and lower surfaces, apiece of stili:z felt securedy to the upper surface und projecting there-V from, and a feather having the' endot the quill bent beckwgirdly and inserted through :iy hole in said felt and into the body portion, the end ot the quill'serving es L barb to hold the feather in upright position.
