IMPROVEMENT IN SPINDLE-STEPS FOR SPINNING-MACHINES.
Specification forming; part of Letters Patent No. 135,189, dated January 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHAnLEs F. WILsoN, of Northbridge, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spindle- Steps, of which the following is a specification:
The .invention is an improvement in lubricating devices for spindles of spinning-frames, and has reference to the construction of the case or holder for the spindle-step, as hereinafter described.
The accompanying drawing represents a vertical central section of my improved spin- (ile-step.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding` parts.
A represents the oil reservoir or shell within which my step is placed. B is the step-box, which is made from a solid piece of metal bored out fory the step of the spindle, and for the passage of the oil, as seen in the drawing. C is the central orifice or step-bearing of the spindle. The oil is introduced into the reservoir 'through the orifice D. E is arlip, made in punching the orifice, against which the tube of the oilcan will strike instead of striking the spindle. F F are holes bored from the top ofthe step-box to a point a little below the bottom of the spindle-orifice C. G is a hole bored horizontally into the box, so as to connect With the holes E F, as seen in the drawing. From this hole a small hole, H, is bored to the center of the spindle-orifice C. The step of the spindle is beveled to an angle of about forty-five degrees, so that the oil which is forced up through the small hole Hreadily spreads and perfectly lubricates the eXtreme end of the spindle.
The oil-reservoir may contain more or less oil; it may be filled to near the oriiice D, so that the step of the spindle will always run in oil. The top of the oil-reservoir is turned in around the spindle, as seen at I, so as to eX- clude lint and dust.
The step-box is conined in the bottom of the shell A, and the latter is confined in whole in the rail, so as to correspond in position with the spindle-bolster in the rail above.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a spindle-lubricating device, a sheetmetal case or cover, A, having its oil-hole formed by punching back a portion of the case, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2f A spindle-lubricating,I device formed of the sheet-metal case or shell A, bent inward at the top, and inclosing the step-block B, provided with holes G, Il, and F, for passage of the oil, all constructed and arranged as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
