DEVICE FOR PERIODIC EMPTYING or nEcEPr'AcIJEs.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug. 31, 1920.
Application filed. October 25, 1919. SerialNo. 333,337.
*To all whom it may concern: v
Be it known that I, Own FRANKMAN,
estate owner, a citizen of the Kingdom of Sweden, and residing at Malmo, Sweden, have invented a new and useful Device for Periodic Emptying of Receptacles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a device for periodic emptying of receptacles containing goods in the form of a mass or in pieces, in order if the'receptacle is transportable to deliver the goods in heaps at predetermined places and to prevent its distributing along the whole path passed by the receptacle, which would be the case if the emptying were going on continuously. Such a requirement is at hand in connection with beet-harvesters and the like and the invention has for its object togather-the beets or tops picked up during the working of the machine in receptacles, which are emptied at predetermined intervals so that the beets or tops are delivered in heaps on the ground whereafter their removal from the field is essentially facilitated.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 shows a longitudinal section of the receptacle. Fig. 2 shows a plan View of the same.
The receptacle consists of three fixed side walls 1, 2 and 3, and the main feature of,
the invention is to be seen therein that the fourth side 4 (Fig. 2) consists'of a plate or grate turnable around an axle5 at the upper edge and that the bottom of saidreceptacle consists of a belt conveyer 6 running over two rollers 7and 8, of which the former is arranged beneath the movable side wall at and the other beneath the opposite fixed side wallr2. One of the roller shafts, for instance the shaft 9 carrying the roller 8, is set into rotation by a suitable driving gear at predetermined intervals and it rotates every time during so long a period that the part of the belt resting upon the roller 8 passes to the roller 7 and vice versa, 2'. 6. half a revolution. The shaft 9 is connected with an intermediate shaft 11 by means of a bevel gear 10 said shaft 11 carrying a sprocket wheel 12, which is connected with a sprocket wheel 14 by means closed position.
of a chain 13. The wheel 14 is mounted upon the shaft 5. This shaft, as shown in the drawing, is provided with two (or more) plates or grates 4, and the gear 1014 is constructed in such a manner that the shaft 5 turns half a revolution during I i the movement of'the belt referred to above, and the uppermost plate or wall 4: takes the place of the lower'one when the emptying is carried out. The shaft 5 must rotate in the direction shown by the arrow in Fig. 1, z'. e. the movable wall of the receptacle must open toward the side of delivery. As to facilitate the emptying and to prevent the belt from being pressed down between the rollers because of the weight of the goods the upper portion of the belt may be supported by fixed supporting bars or rollers in a suitable manner so that slacking of the upper portion of the belt part is prevented.
Having now described my invention 'I declare that what I claim is:
A device of the character desoribedco mtraveling toward the open forward end of the receptacle; a transverse shaft arranged above and spaced from the endless conveyer and disposed near and withinthe forward ends of said sides, a pair of radial gates carried by the shaft and arranged in diametrical relation, each gate being adapted to assume a vertical position within the open end of the receptacle to close the same while the other gate is disposed wholly exteriorly of the receptacle, and gearing connecting said shaft and endless conveyer to cause them to move in unison whereby the endless conveyer is adapted to completely discharge the material from the receptacle by the time the gate reaches the vertical In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. I OLOF ,FRANKMAN.
