UNITED STATES JOHN W. KRAMER, OF BLOOMSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
.PATENT OFFICE IMPROVEMENT IN WEATHER-THRESHOLDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,132, dated January 21, 1873.
and Improved Weather-Strip for Doors, of`
which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
, The invention relates to improvements on the door-strip for which United States Letters Patent numbered 106,835 were granted to me the 30th day of August, 1870. The present invention consists in a new manner of connecting each door-strip with a spring-leverin the side of the door-case, by means of which the strip will be raised when the door is shut.
A in the drawing represents the door-frame; B, the door; C, the sill. A metal plate, a, is by screws fastened upon the sill, and serves, besides protecting the sill against water, to hold down the end of the oil-cloth. D is a door-strip. It has projecting lugs or pins b b at the ends, by which it is pivoted. These pins b enter sockets in small metal plates d d that arescrewed against the door-frame. When the strip D is to be removed for any purpose it will only be necessary to unscrew one of the plates d, orto spring the plate D up in the middle and detach it without unscrewing a plate, d. E is a spring lever pivoted at c in a recess of the door-frame. Its lower end connects with a rod, f, which enters a pocket, g, formed in the door-strip D. When the strip D lies iat upon a, which it will whenever the .door is open, it will swing the lever E, so
that its upper end will project inward from the door-frame When the door is shut it will crowdvthe upper end of E into the frame, and thereby cause it to swing the plate D into the inclined position shown in Fig. 2--z'. e., against the door-to act as a weather-strip for the same.
Every front door may be provided with such strips D, either together with or without the plate a. A rabbet may be cut into the lower edge of the door for the door-strip to fit against.
By dotted lines in Fig. 2 is shown a plate on the other side of D, but similar to it. It is to be used for inside doors, and the carpet can be laid over it.
Y Havingfthu's described my invention, l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-` Th'e combination of the spring-lever E and rod f with the door-strip D and pocket g, substantially as specified.
