IMPROVEMENT IN'HANDLES FOR BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,090, dated January 21, 1873.

Be it known that I, ROBERT S. CRAIG, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Handles for Brushes, Brooms, 85o., of which the following is a specication:
Nature and Objects of Invent/lon.
My invention relates to the class of devices which is adapted to render the handle of a broom, brush, 81:0., adjustable with relation to the head of the same for adapting it for different persons or changing the wearing surface on the bristles; and my invention consists of a combination of set-screw handle, swinging yoke, and arched metallic head for the brush-head, by which a very simple, cheap device is secured, and one that renders the adjustment at once easy and secure.
Description of the Accompanying Drawing.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved device applied to a broom, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
General Description.
A is the head of the broom. B is a metallic plate secured to the broom by screws b, and having an arched bearing surface and guide,
b. C is a yoke, the trunnions c of which engage below the plate B in the manner shown in Fig. 2. The yoke C is tapped at c for the reception of the set-screw end cl of the handle D.
By simply unscrewing the handle slightly The combination of plate B b', swinging adjustable yoke C o, and set-screw handle D d, connected and operating substantially as and for the purpose specified.
