Description

G. S. COOPER.
Feeding-Screens for Bran-Dusters.
No. 135,085, Patentedlan.2l,1873.
A grtnjif AM. PHOTO-UTHUGIMPH/C an M K (mu s FRO csss) UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
GEORGE S. COOPER, OF BARABOO, WISCONSIN.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,085, dated January 21, 1873.
or both ends, all as hereinafter described.
Figure l is an end elevation of a bran-duster case and part of the shoe, and the apparatus for operating it; also a part of the shoe in section; and Fig. 2 is an elevation of part of one of the supports of the shoe.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the end of the case of a branduster; B, the cross-beam of the frame; 0, the
shaft of the duster; D, the shoe; E, the springsupport for the upper end of said shoe; F, the springsupport for the lower end; G, a plate extending downward from the bottom of the shoe past an eccentric, H, on the shaft for shaking the shoe. I is a yoke for causing the eccentric to work the shoe both ways by a positive motion. K is a brace for the plate G. L is the spout for conducting the bran into the reel; M, the riddle of perforated metal for separating coarse matters from the bran; and N is the prolongation of said riddle for spouting said matters 011'. The said shoe is jointed to its supports E F at O, for allowing it to be shaken back and forth. The said supports have long slotted holes P for the connectingbolts Q, by which they are fastened to the vertical sides of the frame, so that said supports may be shifted up or down to alter the inclination of the shoe, or its height, as may be required. As the shaft 0 has to be shifted lengthwise to adjust the reel relatively to the brushes, the plate G and the yoke I are made Wide, so that the eccentric will act at all times. In order to support the shoe at the proper height relatively to the duster-reel, and so that it may be operated by an eccentric on the duster-shaft, by spring-supports having sufficient sweep for allowing the shoe to swing as much as required, I construct the springsupport F for the lower end of the shoe with the bow Q, which enables me to use a spring at said end, which I could not otherwise do, because it would be too short to have the necessary sweep.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of yoke G I, brace K, slotted springs E F, adjusting-bolts Q, and the feed-shoe hinged to said springs, as shown and described, whereby the shoe may be reciprocated and vertically adjusted at either or both ends, for the purpose specified.
2. The spring-supports F for the lower end of the shoe having the bow Q, as specified. GEORGE S. COOPER. Witnesses:
GEORGE MERTENs, GEo. H. PIMBLY.
