IMPROVEMENT IN TUCK-CREASERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,078, dated January 21, 1873.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I'will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which is a perspective view of my entire attachment.
A represents the bed-plate of my attachment, and B is the gage, placed on the top of the bed-plate, and both provided with longitudinal slots, so that they can be adjusted to any desired position. The gage-screw which fastens these two parts to the machine also passes through a hole in a plate, 0, which is placed under the bed-plate A, and thus secures said plate C also to the machine. This plate 0 is always in the same position on the machine, however the bed-plate and the gage may be moved and adjusted. The plate 0 is bars G G are so constructed at their rear ends that one will'pass through the other, and a spring, (I, is placed on the projecting part to force the bars in opposite directions. The front ends of the bars G G are connected by means of a headed pin or screw, 0, passing through a slot in one and into the other.
It will thus be seen that by the rocking motion of the shaft D these bars G G obtain a reciprocating sliding motion always in opposite directions.
The extreme front ends of the bars G-G are formed or provided with downwardly-project ing jaws f j, which open and close by the motion of the bars, and work between upturned edges or ribs h h on the bed-plate A, to crease the goods for the next tuck while the preceding one is being sewed.
In moving the bed-plate A according to the width of the tuck desired, the pins or lugs it on the rocking shaft D are changed into different holes on the bars G G.
The jawsffmay be made separate fromthe bars G G, pivoted together, and connected with said bars in such a manner as to operate like a pair of shears.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
.1. The perforated sliding bars G G provided with spring d and jaws f f, and operated from the needle-bar of the machine by the lever E, rocking shaft D, and pins or lugs H, substalr provided with two upward-projecting cars, a a, one extending upon the outside of the bedplate and gage, and the other through a long slot in the bed-plate.
