Description
WALTHER, a citi"zen of the United States,
- UNI-Trab STATES'PATENT OFFICE.
wenn WALTHER, .o1r cmvrmmvn, 1110.
' v souup iirS uiunm sm ropaxir Be it known th'at I, ADOLPI-I FREI) residentlof- Clmeland, county of Cu'yahoga and Stat'e jof Ohio, have invent ed neW an useful Improvements in Sound-Insulting Supports, of which thg: fpllowing is a spe}c1- fica tion, the prifidjg1d of t he invent'io'n bemg herein explained anti the best mode in which I havecontemplated pplying that principle,
so as t0 distingui'sh it from other inventions.
My invention re)lates .t0 sound insulating supports, f01 build ingelements, its object be1ng to proide a support' of the abovenienticbne'ad character which Will 1be economical 0f manufacture and efficient in the performafice of itis -function, angi at the same time permit elements forwh1ch itforms a connection to b e readily adjusted.
The-Said invention consists of-means hereinafber fully de'scribed ,and partieularb'r sei; forth in th6 claims.
The annexed drawings and the folloyving descri tion set forth in detail -certain means embo ying -my means, how6ver, coristitutihg but ione of various mechanical fo'rms in Which"the prin' -i ciple of the invention may be em'ployed. In said annexed drawings:
Figure 1 represents a. perspective vivlr of a ffagmentarvp0rti0n of a floor constru'ction of Which my iniproved support forms a ggrt.
ig. 2 'mpresents a fragmentary pers'pective -view of a different orm of floor comstruct ion illustrating the manner 0f adapt-.
ing my improved support theret0.
Fig. 3 represents a similar view, m wh1ch the sub-floor c onsist's of cncr6te and illustrating a modified f orm Cf my suppofct ada table to this part1culz xr stru cturq.
Fg. 4 represents a perspectlve v1ew of the base portion of the modified form of sup port shown in Fig. 3. 4
Referring first to the floor stru cture shdwn in Fig. 1, the illustrated embodnnent of my invention includes an insulating support compsing a base member 1 made of sheet stee'zl and two side members 2, 2, ex
tending anglarly from said base membev and usually at ri'ght angles. Inter'pos6d between this base-me'mber und the tvyo side' members aretwb strip's 3 f insulating felt 01' similar matrial. The lateral edge Pon-- tionzof euch of the laterally e'xtnding legs- .4 of the side members 2 are beaded a s shown invehtion, 'the distzlosed Speciflcation oi Letters Patent. as clearly s'hown in the drawing. Apertures am? formed in theangularly extending legs 'of the side membersthro1ighwhichflilails ms1'y be driven and similar apei*tdms a;r e formed iriuthe base member all in Fig. 1 of saiddrawing.
The arts above-descr1be'd are, f 60111Se, a ssembled 'before bgil;g applied to a buildii lg be peadily understood, b,e efiectedin atxy a structure, and such assembly may,. zisfw'flli proved manner and' by any of 1'nany, w'e
known means. -When such assembly is comple'ted the device'nohsiSts q.f the bas members, two side members pro ecting angularly therefrom, and insulating members intei-- p0sed -between said base and-side members, all permanently secu red tolaach other.
at 5,3 I ld the tvo lalteral sge pdrtions of In Fig. 1 the abovwdescribed support ls shown a pplied to a buildlng floor structure compms1ng the finished fioor 7, sleepers 8,-
the sub-floor 9 nd the joists 1G. In apply ing my inventi0n to this type of structure, the required number of supports are secured to the 1ipper surface of the subfloor by nieans of nails 11, such securing bei ng readily efiected as Will be und'istodd. These Supports .arsecred in alined rows, wherepon the sleeprs 8 are laid in these rows respectively 'and secured by means of thenails 12 driven through the side membrs into such sl6epers. Coincidentally with this step the sleepers may be adjusted 'or leveled and nails may be temf1orarily driven into the sleepers for the purpose, as will also be readily understood. After the sl6epers have bee'n leveled theyarepermanently secur6d in finished floor 7 m'ay lle la1d.
lace, whereupon the It will thus be Seen tha't by means of the above-des'cribed device the sub-floor 9 is cqnnected, rigidl with the sleepets 8 but such c0nnect1on 1s in so far as'sound travel is concerned, completely interrupted by the insulating felt strips 3, 3.
In Fig. 2, I have illustrated the manner of applying my ini ention to a building structure oonsisting merel of a primary member 13, and a sedon ary member 14,
which might for insbance be.utilized in a side wall of a build ing.
\Vhere thesub-floor 1s made cf concrete, I pirovid e a modified form 0f base m'ember such as is shown in Figs. 3 und. 4, in which 1 cut away portions f the inetal forming such base members t-0 form a plum1ity 0f anch0ring fingen; extending in the directi0n opposite that of the side members and preferably. slightly curved as shown. These fingers f0nn. ahe means f01' fasening the base-members 130 aber concrete anti such fastening is effectecl by pressing the fingers into he concrete while the laiater is soft.
Having flly described my invention, what I claim a1nd desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
