VIILLIAM THOMAS STRAITON, OF BILLINGS, MONTANA.
PUMP ATTACHMENT FOR AUTOMOBILES.
1 ,Siitl, 122.
Application filed' February 19, 1920.
To aZZ whom. it may concern Be it known .that ll, .lVILLiAM THOMAS STuA'r'roN, a citizen of the United America, residing at Billings in the county of Yellowstone and State of llontana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pump Attachments for Automobiles, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates tov a pump attachment for. automobilesand it has for its object to provide a construction which may be easily andouickly included in the water circulating systems of automobiles which ordinarily employ the thermosiplu-m system, to thereby increase the circulation in such systems. The structure shown in the accom panying drawing is particularly intended for application to the well-known Ford automobile.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the detailed description which now follows.
In the accompanying drawing Figure l is a. side elevation of a Fordengine having the invention applied thereto, Fig. 2 is a transvcrse vertical section with certain of the parts omitted; Fig. 3is a detailed view of the bracket hereinafter described, and
l l 4- is a detail sectional view through the be: ling.
Like numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawing.
l'let'erriug to the drawing, 5 designatesthe well known Ford engine and (3 designates a pump comprising an outlet 7 that is adapted to be bolted directly to the water jacket of the engine at the place where the upper side hose connection is ordinarily attached. The inlet 8'of the pump is adapted to have connection with a special pipe connection 9 that iS angle as indicated at 9*, this last angle corresponding to the angle at which the lower hose or pipe connection of the Ford circulat- I Specification of Letters Patent.
States of is not limited to the so shaped as to extend substantially. horizontally for a distance and then at an.

acts as the fan belt 11. The outer end of this shaft is mounted in a bearing of par ticularly novel construction, by means of which bearing the parts maybe quickly put in place without clan er of'binding of the shaft of the pump. 'I his bearing comprises a bracket 12 having slotted openings 13, which receive bolts 14, that take into-the cover of the time gear. case; This construction provides for bodily vertical adjustment of the bracket. The bracket further comprises a horizontally-disposed overhanging plate 15 which has elongated slots 16 formed therein for the reception of bolts 16 which engage a bearing block 17, and it is in this hearing block that the outer end of the shaft 10 is mounted to turn. The provision of the elongated openings 16 permits of a lateral. adjustment of the bearing block 17, and this coupled with the vertical adj ustrnent already described renders it possible to quickly ad just the bearing to support the shaft without binding. It will be noted that the bearin block comprises the body portion 17 an face plates 18 and 19, the latter being provided with the openings through which the shaft passes and in which the shaftturns. lt is to be understood that the invention precise construction set forth but: that it includeswithin its purview whatever changes fairly come within the terms or the spirit of the appended claims. .llaving described my invention what 1 claim is:
l. A device of the character described comprising a bearing and a bracket for supporting the-same, said bracket consisting of which is at r ght angles to the plane of the inclined arm. and a web at the opposite end of said arm which lies in the plane of said arm and extends in opposite directions therefrom, said web and said plate each having elongated slots formed therein a bearing block and 't'astenings for the bearing block adjustable in the slots of the plate.
2. A device of the chariurter described comprising same to the side oi a Ford water have connection therewitln a shaft extending a pump, means for attaching the jacket. to
in sllbstantial pafallelism with the side of m ss new Lemme In testimony whereof I afilx my signature 1n the presence of two wltnesses.
