I Hnnnmrr H. Macon- Be it'known that dnited States of Amer- Int' iana, have invented new and useful Pres- ;sure-Regulators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to mechanism-for the automatic maintenance and control of pressure.
.'l'his inventionhas utility when incorpoated in eleetriocontrol and maintenance of fluid pressure in hydro pneumatic installations. i
lleferring to the drawings:-
Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of an emlmdimcntof the invention in an electric a tuated hydro-pneumatic plant or installation adapted for household use;
Fig. 2 is a plan of the pressure regulator of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a section on the line III-III, Fig. 2.
The suction line 1 may extend to the hydro-pneumatic pump 2 mounted on the platform Bavith the electric motor 4 con nected thereto by the driving belt 5 for o )eratm the )lun to su 1! com ircsscd air and Water to the line (3 and the reservoir 7. The pressure connection from the pump 2 may have the waste valve 8 and the pressure relief valve 9.
The pressure connections from the pump as shown embody the line 10 to the automaticpressure regulator at which there is the threaded connection ll to the chamber 12 by opening [3, one side of said chamber being formed by the flexible diaphragm 14. The opposite side of the diaphragm in this chamber has coaeting therewith the disk 15 provided with a plunger 16 extending through the opening 17 to engage the lever 18 of the. third class, having the fulcrum 19 in the bracket 20. Extension 21. from the chamber 12 has the bolt 22 surrounded by the compression spring 23, which may be 'adjnsted by the nut 24 to vary its action upon the lover-l8 to resist movement of the plunger 16, and thereby permit adjusting the pressure at which the. device is to act.
In hydro pneumatic installations for household use, the spring 23 maybe adjusted to have a range for being thrown by the plunger 16 when the pressure rises above PRESSURE-REGULATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug. 17, 1920. i Application filed March 2.1911. Serial NO.|151,921. 0
fifty pounds, and to throw the plunger 16 when the pressure falls below thirty pounds.
- lever 31 in the compound lever linkage series vfrom the plunger 16 extends to a pair of switch elements 34 each embodying a heavy outer spring leaf andintermediate lighter laminations as a terminal.
From the motor 4; ex tFnds line 35 to the terminal 3(3 closed by one of the members 34 to connect with the terminal 37 and supply line 38. This supply line circuit is completed through the line 39 to terminal 40 closed by the other terminal 34 to the terminal 41 and line 42 to the motor 4.
in the shifting of the lever linkage nieclr anism, there is a throwing of the switch or terminal elements 3% into and out of cir cuit closing relation by the passing of the link 30 by a dead point as to the fulcrum 32, due to the raising.or lowering of the link 29. This throwing action is effected by the link 2!) which in reality is a lever having the extension 43 connected by the bolt 44 to the car 453 on lever 27. This bolt 44 has adjusted thereon the compression spring 46 tending to force the upper end of this lever 43, 25). away from the diaphragm chamber, and accordingly the lower endv toward the diaphragm chamber, thus tending to shift the link 30, and with it the lever 3L out of dead point relation as the link 29 is moved past such dead point. Adjusting of this spring 46 varies the responsiveness of this dead point shifting, while adjusting of the spring 23 varies the pressure range control as to'the diaphragm actuation. .There may be some relative adjustments desirable between these two springs in reaching certain desired conditions for operation.
The throw limit of the lever 31 away from such closing position is limited bythe rocking lever or dog 47 having the fulcrum bearing 48 in the bracket 49 rising from in forced the extensioa'lii from the chamber 12. This .do 47 has e ledge 50 upon which the free on of the lever 31 ma rest when the switch is opened, this droppe or opened position-of I the-dog 47 being determined by the remote end. or arm 5 1-this arm coactin with the crops Web the upper arm 43 o the lever 43, 29. Ipthe shifting of the switch to closed mtion, this dog 47 has its end 51 o v nward and there is a supplement- ,mg of the action of link'30 lifting past the it tacti so of the linkage an dead point in that the cam 52 of the dog 47 lidqs'nnder the free end of the lever 31 and Br the'switch into firm' terminal con- ,relition. ere is aeeordin 1 produced a device of Hfsitive throw, e icately responsive to con 'tions arising in domestic water power plan especially when used in connection with 6 pump of United States Patent No. 1,174,172.
What is claimed and it is desired to secure by United States Letters Patent is: Y
1. A pressure regulator embodying a diaphragm, a switch to be actuated, and interiate mechanismincluding a plunger, 7
med snap throw effecting linkage for the switch, connecting means between the plunger; and linkage, and a do movable independently g uctuable from the connecting means to hold the switch closed.
2. A pressure regulator embodying a pivoted switch arm, a first link connected to the arm and approximating the direction of the arm, 11 second link extending transversely of the arm and connected to the first link, a diaphragm, a plunger coactin with the diaphragm, a first lever actuable iy the plunger, a second lever connected to the first lever, and adjustable yieldahle means moi-nted on the iecond lever and coacting with the second 'nk for rocking the second link as to the second lever for s the switch 3. A pressure regulator embodying). ivoted switch arm, a first link connected to the arm and approximating the direction of the arm, aseeond link extending transversely of the arm and connected to the first link,'a diaphragm, a glunger coactin with the diaphragm, a rst lever' actuafiile by the plunger, a second lever connected to the first HERBERT H. MACOMBER.
