Be it known that l., Louis Aeshna Dnsr,
residing at 1375 St. Via-teur street, in thel city oflliontreal, in theProvince of Quebec, in the Dominion of Canada, have in"` vented certain new and useful Improvements in llowing-hlachines5 and I do here by declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, 'and exact description of the same.
The present invention relates to improvements in plowing machines and its main obterin which a plurality of p'lows will be carried by the tractor, thus saving time and y labor. A further obiect is to provide a 1na\ Fig. 4. is a top view of a single plow and connecting link. f

In the drawings, 1 is the frame or chassis and is preferably provided at the forward` ject is to provide a machine of this charac-v sis, and, at the rear end with the caterpillar tractor driving mechanism a, which is provided on each side of the frame 1. The driving wheels of the tractor-chains 4i are preferably driven by the pinions 5 which are mountedv on each end of the shaft 6. The shaft G provided intermediate of its length with a differential 7, and 8 is a sprocket wheel operated by the sprocket chain 9 which engages the sprocket 10 rigidly mounted on the shaft 11 suitably journaled in the bearings 1Q secured to the frame 1. 13 is a shaft suitably journaled in the bearings lei provided .adjacent said shaft 11 and on which is mounted the piuw ion 15 which meshes with the gear 16 mounted on the shaft l1. The shafts 13 and 11 are also provided with co-acting speed reducing gears 1T and 1S, and 19 if a clutch adapted to disconnect the gears on said shafts 13 and 11. 20 is a bevel gear secured on said shaft 13, and 21 is a `beveled pinion adapted to mesh with said bevel gear 20,
said pinion 21 being rigidly mounted on the shaft 22` which is connected to the crank shaft 23 of the engine which is not illusl trated in the drawings.
The guide wheel 2 is operatively connected to a toothed quadrant 2a which is actuated by the worm 25 which is provided at the end of the shaft QG, and 2T is a friction gear rigidly mounted `at the end of said shaft. The shaft 2G is journaled adjacent said friction gear 2T in the bearing E28V which is mounted on the slidable frame 29, said frame being provided with a toothed quad ant 30 which co-acts with the ope'ating rack 31, said rack being operatively con nected to a lever 32a.
The shaft 13 is provided adjacent said friction gear 2T with a right friction gear C32 and a left friction gear 33, said gears be ing adapted to co-act alternately with the gear 27 and thus revolve the shaft 2G to operate the guiding wheel 2 `in the right or left direction.
Adjacent said gears Zfand 33 and adapted to 'cov-act with said gears, is a friction gear 34; mounted on one end of the shaft 35 which journ'aled at one end in the bearing. 3G mounted on the bracket i7 and at the other end in the liearing 38 mounted on the movable frame 239 which .is provided with a toothed quadrant 4r() that co-acts with the mounted, said rod projecting through one end of said bracket 3T which is also threaded. At one end of said rod 47 are secured two cables l-S and 49 respectively which pass over the double pulley 59 secured to the frame 1, and over the pulleys 51 and 52 secured on. the supporting frame said cables being rigidly secured at their outer ends, respectively to the plow frames 51 and 55. The rotation of shaft 35 is transmitted, through sprockets a3 and-t4 and chain 4G, to the threaded rod 17, which latteris thereby caused to move endwise in one direction or the other with the result that traction is exerted upon or relieved from the cables 4S and 49.
The cables 48 and i9 serve to hoist the plow frames 54 and 55, and 5G indicates a pair of-V-shaped brackets, one associated with each of said cableseS and t9 and located adjacent said frames 5i and 55, said brackets being pivoted at their apices to the main frame or chassis 1 and pivotally connected at the outer ends of their diverging arms to said cables (see F ig. 9) in order to properly. balance lthe weight of the frames 5lv or 55 and. thus lift them horizontally.
The frame 1 is provided preferably in the rear thereof with slideways 5T, and 5Sv is a frame slidably mounted in said slideways. The said frame 5S is provided with suitable holes 59 at opposite ends thereof in which are rigidly mounted the stub shafts 60, and mounted on said stub shafts 60 are wheels 61 each. of which is provided on its inner side with a gear 62. 63 is a brace-member located in rear of said wheels 61 and connecting the rear or outer ends of the stub shafts 60. The wheels 61 are provided with pairs of spaced radially-arranged guides Gi around their peripheries, and with projecting lugs 65 located between said guides. The said frame 5S is also provided intermediate thereof with two oblique lugs 66 to which are secured the converging standards 66, the uppermost ends of said standards terminating in an upright-member G7 which slides in the guiding-bracket 67a secured to the upper end of the supportino' frame 53. Bearings 68 are provided on said frame 5S in which are journaled the shafts 69. On the rear end of each shaft G9 is 'mounted the pinion 70 which is adapted to mesh with the adjacent gear 62, and 71 is a gear mounted on the front end of said shaft. 72 are bearings preferably mounted at right angles in relation to the bearings GS and supported on the projecting brackets 'T3 which are integral with said frame 5S. In each of said bearings T2 is journalcd the shaft T1 provided at opposite ends with pinions 75 which are adapted to mesh with the bevel gears TI, and 76 is a sprocket wheel mounted on said shaft 741. 77 is another sprocket wheel mounted on the driving shaft 13 and connected to the sprocket TG by means of the sprocket chain 78. It will readily be understood that 'the rotation of said driving sha l't 13 will thereby be imparted to the said wheels G1.
The plow-frames 5l and 55 are provided at their inner ends` with collars T9 which encircle the shafts GO, and on the outer ends of said frames are rotatably mounted guide-wheels Sl). S1 are supporting wheels which are mounted on thc brackets S2, said brackets being rigidly .secured at the end of the frames andA .35. The frames 5land 55 are preferably strengthened or braced by the rods S3 hich are secured at their lower ends to the brackets S2 and at their upper ends to the frame 1.
S4 are a plurality of links fiexibly connected together, forming a chain, which passes over said wheels (31 and St), each of said links Si carrying a plow S5. Each link S1 has a pin 8G projecting downwardly from it and on which is rigidly secured the stub shaft ST, and 8S is a disk-furrower rotatably mounted on said stub shaft ST.
At one side of said plow S5 is mounted an adjustable guide-plate S9 which is provided adjacent each end thereof with a U shaped lug adapted to engage the end of the shaft ST and the pin 91 secured to one side of said plow side.
As will beseen, the wheels 61 and S0 support the two series of plows S5 carried by the chains Set which are driven by the gears (32 and pinions TO. Intermediate of said frames 5st and are provided the link-supportingrollers 92 which are rotatably mounted on the brackets 93 secured to the frames 5l and Secured to the brace-member G3 are a plurality of disk-plows 9st which are pivotally connected to the liexible frames 95, and provided with adjustable tension springs 9e. The object of these disk-plows is to lill the space between the two endless series of plows and thus plow the soil between the said series.
The plows 85 provided on thc links Si are preferably disposed at an angle in relation to said links, whereby during the forward movement of the machine a plurality ot' oblique converging furrows will be made as disclosed in the plan view illustrated in Fig. 3.
The series of plows when they are not in use, may be lifted out of contact with the soil. by means of the cables 48 and 49 which are operated by the threaded rod 47, the sprocket wheels 44 and 43, the chain 46, the shaft 35, the rack 4l and the pedal 42.
W hat I claim as my invention is:
l. In a plowing machine, the combination, with a main frame; of a pair of auxiliary frames disposed at right angles to the main :trame with their confronting ends in spaced relation; a connecting bar between said spaced frame ends; an endless series of plows mounted in each auxiliary frame; means for driving said series of plows whereby a pluralityof' oblique, converging furrows will be made; and a plurality of plows separate from the two endless series of plows suspended from said connecting bar to plow straight furrows in the ground between said endless series of plows.
2. In a plowing machine, the combination,
with a main frame; of a pair of auxiliary frames disposed at right angles to the main frame with their confronting ends in spaced relation; a connecting bar between said spaced frame ends; an endless series of plows mounted in each auxiliary frame; means for driving said series of plows whereby a plurality of oblique, converging fui-rows will be` ormed; a plurality of plows separate from the two endless series of plows suspended from said connectin bar to alow straight furrows in the Uroun between said endless series of plows; and means for raising or lowering both auxiliary frames and the connecting bar and their respective plows from or toward the ground.
3. A plowing machine comprising 1n combination with a tractor; two endless traveling series of linked plows disposed at right angles in relation to the tractor; a pluralityv of disk-plows mounted between said series of plows; movable supporting and adjusting means for said series of plows; means to drive said series of plows; and means to lift said series of plows from the soil, substantially as described.
4. In a plowing machine, in combination, two endless series of plows disposed transversely of the machine with their confronting ends in spaced relation; means for driving said series of plows whereby a plurality of oblique, converging furrows will be made; and a plurality of plows separate from the two endless series of plows arranged in the space between the confronting ends of said series to plow straight furrows in the ground which intersect the converging ends of the oblique furrows.
