Be it known that I, PHILIP M. ENGLIsH, a citizen of the United States,and a resident of Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flush- Tank Valves and Appurtenances, of which 7 the followin is a s ecification.
This invention relatesto a flush tank valve and appurtenances. It is characterized by a non-collapsible float, the buoyancy of which coacts with the operations of the valve.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents an elevation and'part section of the improved'flush tank valve with its tank, as. on the line '1, 1 of Figr 2, and Fig. 2 shows a top plan view of F ig. l whennot sectioned, and its cover removed.
A tank is shown with the bottom'20, front wall 22, rear wall 23 andend walls-24 and 1 25. A detachable cover 26 is provided for the tank. The usual inlet valve 28 extends up'fromthe bottom 20. The latter is actuated by the float 29, and has leading thereto theinlet piping 30. A threaded sleeve 31 has formed at its upper end the cap with the flanges 32 and 33. The upper face of the flange 32 constitutes a Valve seat 34., An extension 35 with the cavity 35 is formed with said capQHAn elongated guide 36 coaxial with the sleeve 31 is connected to the latter by the. arms 37. located betweenthe bottom face of the flange 33 and the top face of the bottom 20. r
A clamping nut 39 is in threaded engagement with the sleeve, 31 and bears .Lagamst the packing ring 40, which latter in turn bears against the bottom face of the bottom 20 of the tank. Outlet piping 44 is connected to the sleeve 31. A hollow column 45 with the slots 46 at its upper end, extends up from the extension 35. The interior of the said column leads to cavity 35 An oscillating beam comprises the barrel 47 p with the caps 48 and 49 in threaded engagement with the endsthereof' A flange 50 extends from the barrel 47 parallel to the longitudinal axis thereof and is located in the slots 46. A hinge pin 51 extends through the column 45 and supports the flange 50. A counter-balancing ball 52 is located in the barrel 47 and can freely roll therein. A rigid valve stem 56 is slotted at its upper end and the flange 50 extends into gated guide 36. A

A washer 62 bears on the float 51 and a nut 63 in threaded engagement with the valve stem 56 bears on the washer 62. A washer 64 bears up against the valve and a nut 65 is in threaded engagement with the valve stem 56, and bears against the'washer 64. An operating bar 7 0 extends from the tipping device comprises a bracket 71 from which extends a threaded sleeve 72 and the stop pins 73 and 74, which extend through the front wall 22 of the tank. A nut 76 with the extension 77 is in threaded engagel nentv with the sleeve 72 and bears against the front face of the wall 22. A pivot 7 9 with its rear end 80 squared, is
buoyant material like supported in the sleeve 72. A tipping bell crank with the varms 82 and 83 is pivoted on the bracket 71 by means of the pivot pin 84. A pair of. links 85 have each one end pinned to the arm 83 by means of the pin 86. The other end of the links 85 ispinned to a crank 89 by means of the pin 90. The other end of the crank 89 is supported on the squared end 80 of the pivot 79. An operating handle 92 is fastened to the pivot 79. The arm 82 is located to'clear the bar when in its neutral position, when the barrel 47 is tipped forwardly as indicated in the drawings and the valve 60 located on its seat 34.
The operation of the invention is as follows: The inlet valve 28 operates in the usual manner and need not be described. T operate the flush disk valve 60 to discharge water through the piping 44, the operator swings the operating handle 92 in either direction, and thereby the link 89 swings until it bears against one of the stop pins 73 or 74. This causes the arm 82 to bear up against the operating bar 70 and tips the barrel 47 in the direction of the arrow A, raises the flush valve 60 from the valve seat 34, and also raises the float 61. At the same time the ball 52 which is bearing against the cap 49 rolls to the other end of the barrel 47 and bears against the cap a8. The flush valve 60 uncovers the opening through the sleeve 31 until the water in the tank lower to'a predetermined level as indicated by the 'line B, B. The size of the float 61 is proportioned so that when the water lowers tothe'level ofthe line B, B, the upper portion of the float 61 will not .be submerged, and it will, sink" and tip the barrel 4-7 in a direction oppowhile it is submerged, and closes said valve when the water lowers sufliciently not to completly submerge said float. The ball 52jperforms the functions oii' a counterbal- 'anceand assists. by reason of its weight in maintaining the valve 60 in either its closed or open poslt on. hen the valve 60 is in its closed position and the water rises to the top edge of the hollow column 45, the
water will flow th'roug/ the said column, the cavity 35 and be discharged through the sleeve 31. The column v4L5 with the cavity 35"? constitutes, an overflow for the tank.

The combination of a tank, a sleeve extending through the bottom of the tank, the upper edge of the sleeve constituting a valve seat, said sleeve having an extension -with a cavity connecting with the interior of thepsleeve, hollow column supported on said extension, an oscillating beam having a flange, a hinge pin connecting said flange and hollow column, a counterbalancingball in the barrel, a rigid valve stem with: one end pinned to the flange, a valve and a non-collapsible float secured to the other end of the valve stem coaxial with the valve seatan operating bar extending from one end ofthe barrel, a tipping device coacting with the operating bar and comprising a bracket with a pair of stop pins and a sleeve, the said sleeve extending through thefront wall of the tank, means to'lock'the lattersleeve in place, a pivot supported in the, latter s1eeve, a tipping bell crank with a pair of arms pivoted on said bracket, a pair of links with one end of each'pinned to one of the arms of the bell crank, 'a crank with one end pinned to the pair of'links, the. other end of the crank secured to said pivot,and coacting with the stop pins of the .bracket and an operating handle fastened tolthe pivot,ithe other arm ,7
