Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFEQ HENRY H. EBY, or MENDOTA, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN COB-CARRIERS FOR CORN-SHELLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 134,790, dated January 14, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY H. EBY, of Mendota, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Corn- Gob Carrier; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention is'designed for use in connection with a power corn-sheller for the purpose of carrying away the cobs from the machine; and consists mainly in the combination of suitable devices for actuating the carrier, with means for adjusting the carrier to cause it to discharge the cobs in any desired direction, as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawing, Figures 1 and 2, views in elevation of my invention; Fig. 3, a partial plan view of the same; and Fig. 4, a view of the bolts for securing the block.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe fully its construction and manner of operation.
a. a a represent a suitable framework for supporting the operating parts of the machine. b represents a disk or block, resting upon proper bearings upon the frame-work a, provided with a central orifice, through which passes a shaft, I), provided at its lower end with a pulley, b and at its upper end with a bevel-gear wheel, b as shown. 0 represents a pinion attached to the inner end of a short horizontal shaft resting in proper bearings on the block b, the outer end of which is provided with a gear-wheel, c. D represents the carrier-frame, constructed generally in any proper manner, and provided. with the endless belts d d, having suitable cross-slats, and the pivoted supports d 61 which support the outer end.- The inner end of the carrier-frame is pivoted to arms 0 e rising from the block b, as shown. 01 represents a gear-wheel attached to the shaft of the lower pulley of the endless belts of the carrier, which wheel engages with the gear-wheel c, as shown. m m represent bolts secured in the frame-work,'the upper ends of which are turned over the block b, as shown. 7
The manner of using my invention will now be described. It being located in reference to the corn-sheller in such manner that the eobs from the latter can be discharged upon the carrier, power is communicated to it from the sheller by means of a belt which runs about the pulley b communicated, through the connections described, to the endless belt, which carries 0d the cob. The carrier may be turned for the purpose of discharging the cobs in any desired direction by revolving the block b, which supports the carrier-frame and the main portion of the actuating devices upon its bearings, it
being secured in any desired position. by means of the hook-bolts e e.
The described construction has been found in practice to be well adapted for the purpose for which it is designed.
Having thus fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the block b, adapted to revolve as described, and the hook-bolts e.
0 e, and bolts m m, arranged as and for the.
purpose described.
This specification'signed and witnessed this 21st day of October, A. D. 1872.
. HENRY El. EBY.
