To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOSEPH Sz'rAIn" and LOUIS Koviics, citizens of Hungary, residing at Bellaire, in the county of Belmont and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Direction-Signals, of Which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to direction signals for motor vehicles or the like and comprehends a construction wherein the various parts are compactly arranged so as to produce a comparatively small device which can be readily and easily mounted upon a convenient part of the machine. I
To this end, the invention employs a pair of sliding indicating members, normally disposed within a casing and adapted to be singly extended for use through the instrumentality of a flexible element, which can be quickly and easily attached to an appropriate part of the machine to hold the indicator in its extended position against the tension of resilient means which function to hold the indicator in its normal position.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation partly in section of the signal device forming the subject matter ofthe invention.

The spring 19 has its opposite end secured to the adjacent end of the slide 11 through the instrumentality of the flexible member 21 while the corresponding end of the spring 20 is secured to the adjacent end of the slide 12 through the instrumentality of the member 22 similar'to that indicated at 21. A tubular element 23 incloses the springs 19 and 21 to protect the latter from the effects of dirt and other foreign matter. The springs function to normally maintain the slides 11 and 12 positioned within the casing 10, one behind the other as shown in Fig. 1. The slides are adapted however to be snugly projected through the opposite ends of the casing 10 for the purpose hereinabove stated.
A flexible element 25 is provided for each slide, and the corresponding extremities of these elements 25 are secured in any suitable manner to the lower extremities of the slides 11 and 12. Arms 26, preferably project from the slide to provide a connection between the latter and the flexible elements 25. The elements 25 extend in opposite directions from their point of connection with the slide and are trained over pulleys 27 journaled at the lowermost corners of the frame, the flexible elements extending to a position within convenient reach of the operator. \Vhen it is desired to project one or the other of the slides to an active position, the proper element 25 is pulled upon, thereby moving said slide to its projected position against the tension of the spring with which it is associated. When the particular element 25 is released, the spring functions to automatically retract the slide to its normal position. For the purpose of hold ing the slide in an extended position, we
