Be it known that I, CHARLps M. Tann- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Delavan, in the county of lValworth, State of lVisconsin, have invented -a new and useful Pipe-Cleaner; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to pipe cleaners and has for its object to provide a pipe cleaner and case therefor which may be carried in a smokers pocket, thereby providing a cleaner which will always be within easy reach of the smoker and at the same time, by incasing the same prevent the soiling of the pockets and the clothing from becoming odorized by the nicotin from the pipe.

A further object is to provide a cylindrical shaped casing, said casing being provided with a divisional wall therein, which wall is loosely mounted and provided with a right angle arm at its lower end, said divisional wall forming two chambers, one for the pipe cleaner and the other for absorbent cotton to be used during the pipe cleaning operation. Also to provide an aperture in the bottom of the casing into which the pipe cleaner may be inserted to force the divisional wall upwardly so that the cotton within the casing may be removed as desired for use.

Vith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth'shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral l designates a cylindrical casing having a chamber 2 therein. The upper end of the casing l is flared as at 3 thereby forming a tapered opening 4 for the reception of the handle 5 of the pipe cleaning rod or l Specification of Letters Patent.

probe 6, which probe is adapted to be made of metal of a flexible nature so that the same will easily bend and flex to conform to the curvature of smoke passages of various types of pipes. A closure for the lower end of the casing 1 is formed by means of a spherical member 7, l ber being retained in the lower end of the casing l by means of the flared and bent in portion 8 of the lower end of the casing. The member 7 is provided with an aperture 9 extending through the same.

Y it will only be necessary to, insert the member 6 in the apertures 7 and force the same upwardly, which will cause the end of the member 6 to engage the portion 14: and consequently force the divisional wall upwardly. This upward forcing of the divisional wall will cause the absorbent cotton 15 to be raised high enough so that the same may be reached by the operator, thereby allowing the utilization of small pieces of cotton to be wrapped around the end of the pipe cleaning member 6, thereby allowing a thorough cleaning and drying of the smoke passage in a pipe.

It will be seen that by loosely mounting the wall l2, that when the end of the member 6 is forced downwardly into the compartment l0, that the upper end of the divisional wall will move, thereby allowing the proper seating of a handle member 5. From the above it will be seen that a pipe cleaner and casing for the same is provided wherein cleaning cotton may be carried and also one wherein the clothes will not become soiled by the cleaner, nor the odor from the same allowed to penetrate the clothing.

The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 1, A pipe cleaner and cylindrical case therefor comprising a pipe cleaning probe, said probe having a handle member at one end thereof, said handle member being adapted to be disposed in one end of the cylindrical casing, said cylindrical casing said membeing divided longitudinally into compartments, one of said compartments being adapted to receive the'pipe probe and the other compartment cleaning material.
