Description
1. KUNZ.
Nail-Clinchers.
NO. 134,680. Patented 1an. 7, 18734.
Fiyl,
UNITED STATES PATENT @Errea JOHN KUNZ, OF NAPOLEON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT EN. NAIL-CLINCHERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. BSASQG), dated J anna-ry 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN KUNZ, oi' Napoleon, in the county of Henry and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Nail-Olinchers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the Aannexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and gures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of my nail-clincher.
This invention haswr'elation to a tool for clinching horseshoe-nails; and it consists in the novel construction of a pair of pivoted levers, having serrated jaws, substantially as hereinafter more fully described.
Referring to the drawing, A A designate said levers, and B B their jaws; the former being straight and the latter curved to an elliptical form. The inner surface-of the jaw B and the outer or convex surface of the jaw B have transverse channels or serrations b b',
by means of which the jaws obtain purchase on the shoe'and'hoof. Y
In the act of clinching a nail the jaw B is placed under the shoe and the jaw B' brought to bear against the projecting nail, which it clinches by a tirrn and gradual pressure. The jaw B tapers toward its end, as shown, and is elastic, so as not to bruise or injure the hoof.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The clincher for horseshoe-nails, consisting of the pivoted levers A A having, respectively, the straight serrated jaw B and the oblique, elliptical, elastic jaw B with serrations b', substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I'have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN KUN Z.
