To all tf1/wm. t may concern.'
Be it known that I, CHARLES IV. Molins- Lny, a citizen of at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ollio, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in IIood-I-Iinge Supports, of which I declare the full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in motor vehicle hoods, to the method of supporting the pintle of the hood hinge relative to the body so that the hood hinge may be adjusted relative to the body.
The principal object of this invention is to provide an improved supporting bracket for the pintle of a hood hinge and improved connections between said supporting bracket and the body, whereby the bracket may be universally adjusted relativeto the body.
Further objects, and objects relating to economies of manufacture and details of construction, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following' specication. My invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the appended claims.
A. structure constituting a preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing',y forming a part of this specification, in which` Figure I is a view in side elevation of the forward part of a motor vehicle embodying my invention.
Fig. II is a view partly in plan and partly in section on theline IIMII of Fig. III showing` a hood hinge supporting bracket constructed in accordance with my invention and connected to the body of a motor vehi-l clc substantially on the line III-III of Fig. II, and Fig. IV,

I, and j Fig. X is a fragmentary top plan view of the'body with the supporting bracket for the hood hinge pintle removed, showing the enlarged opening in said body, through of the supporting bracket extends.
In the drawings, similar yreference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
In motor vehicle` construction, the hood or casing which covers the engine is usually made up of a plurality of sections, which are connected together by a longitudinally extending hinge, which extends from the top central point of the radiator to the top central point of the cowl. This hinge is provided with a longitudinally extending pintle, one end of which is mounted in a socket provided on the radiator, while the other end is supported "from the body, and the whole hood is supported through this longitudinally extending hinge and the pintle thereof. i
In carrying out the objects of my inven` tion, I have provideda supporting bracket mounted on the body and having asocket adapted to receive the end of the hinge pintle, which bracket is adjustably mounted on the body so that it may be adjusted in two dircctions`either longitudinally of the hinge or laterallythereto, so that the hood may be accurately positioned and centered relative to the radiator, the body and the' motor vehicle frame.
Considering the numbered parts of the drawings, I have shown'the forward part of a motor vehicle, including the frame lO, the radiator il. the body or cowl l2, and the hood 13. As I have indicated above. the hood is made up of a plurality of sections,
tudinally extending hinge 111. The hood sec- Y tionsv 13 'are provided with the beads 15,-
