FAU'CET CONTROL.
nemers.
To all whom it may concern:
lle it lrnown that l, J osnrI-i W. SHARP, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at llerwyn, in the county ot Chester', State ot Pemisylvania, have invented a new and use itul Faucet Control, of which the following is a specification..
My invention relates toimprovements in faucet control and comprises means for controlling or reducing or interrupting the flow through the faucet, which is additional or supplemental to the usual main or handflhe invention also comtion.
l-teferring to the drawings, which illustrate merely by way oiE example, suitable means for the embodiment oit' my inven tion Figure 1 is a side elevation.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section.
Fig. 3 is a detail in perspective of the supplemental valve element.
j Fig. d is a similar view of the washer cou operating therewith.
llig. 5 is a similar view of the capnut.
Similar numerals relier to similar parts throughout the several views.
ln the example shown in the drawing, my improvement is applied to what is known as a quick faucet, or a quick acting faucet, in that the main valve 7, which is carried by the nozzle element 8, having threaded con nection with the body or fixed portion 9, is
' brought to seat, or into closed relationship with the valve seat l1, by a partial rotative movement o'l nozzle member 8, by means of the handle 12.
The body portion 9, which is connected to lthe neck portion 13, leading to the supply pipe, is provided from the upper end thereof to a point below the aperture or bore ll of the neck, with a bore oi greater `diameter than the bore of said body portion 9 below said point, whereby the shoulder is provided between `said differing diameters. ldithin this portion of larger bore is inserted the hollow cylinder member 16, open at the bottom and provided with the port or opening 17, which is adapted to register with the bore 14: of the neclr portion.
The upper end of the `cylinder 16 is closed and is provided with. a lug or plug 18 preterably proj ecting above the surrounding wall oi the cylinder, and. is provided at its Speccation of Letters JEatent.` e lPaatmv'tml July 6,1920., Application iled Maren i6, 191'?. .erialNd top with a slot similar to the slot in a screw head, or it may be provided with other suitable means for manipulation, preferably by means of a tool.
The upper outer margin of body portion 9 is threaded to receive the interior thread of the cap-nut 19, which is adapted to surround the lug 18, oi? cylinder 16, and to exert pressure upon the washer 2O interposed between the top of the cylinder and said cap nut 19.
lt will be understood that the cylinder is constructed to have a substantially watertight movable lit in the body portion 9, so that it may be turned by a suitable instrument, such as a screw driver, to bring the aperture 17 into, or out oi register with the bore 14 of the neck portion.
This device maybe utilized for the accomplishment ol either of two purposes;
llhere ior example, it is desired to remove the `valve 7 ior repairs, the valve cylinder 16 is turned so that opening 17 will not register with bore lll, which will result in shutting oil the water entirely above the nozzle.
Where it is desired to reduce the force or volume oi l'low of water through the nozzle, because of abnormally high pressure or other cause, the cylinder 16 is adjusted so as to secure only a partial register between port 17 and bore 14. "With valve 7 entirely open this cylinder 16 may be adjusted until the desired flow through nozzle 8 is secured. lWhen the proper adjustment is secured, the cap-nut is screwed down tightly on thc washer 20, so that all leak is prevented through the top of the body portion 9, and at the same time the valve cylinder is locked in such position of adjustment. The member 8 is provided with a number of projections or parallel ribs having shoulders 21. These ribs iorm recesses between them for receiving the set-screw 22 for securing the operating member or handle 12 in proper position oft adjustment with respect to member 8. rllhis member 12 is provided with an opening :tor receiving member 8 and is also provided with a flange 23 for engaging the shoulders 21 of the projections which pre vents the accidental disengagement of mem ber l2 from member 8 in case the set-screw becomes loosened.
1What I claim is:
in a faucet, the combination of a tubular neck portion and a vertically extending cy lill rio
lindrical portion or housing integral therewith, said housing portion having an enlarged bore in its upper extension and a valve seat near its lower end7 a cylindrical valve member seated 1n said enlarged bore,
Y open at the bottom and closed at the top and provided with a port adapted to register with the bore of the neck portion, a nozzle member threaded on the lower end of the 10 housing and provided With peripheral projections. Y
