Z4 lNvENToR ATTORNEY ERNST, ANHUsEnbF RACINE. Wisconsin. -1
l .rrLE on eiwsn' noLDER.- j
To all whom t mayconcerm y' Be it knownthat I, Nsr NHIQSER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Racine, in the county of Racine `and State of VVis'consin, have invented new andv useful Improvements inF ile or BrushHolders, of which ,the following is aV description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
The present invention relates broadly to toolfvholders -especially adapted for use in cleaning heavy castings,` rubber tire casings, and the like, and has forfits primary object to provide a holder capable of receiving files, rasps, brushes or other tools.v j
Another object of this invention is to provide means forradjustably securing the tool in the holder so that when one portion of the rasp or other tool becomes worn, it may be adjusted to bring the unused portion" thereof in Contact with the work. This adjustment also permits the engagement of the tool with work at varying heights. j
A further object of the inventionis to provide an elongated one-piece tool holder ofsuitable light material khaving its lower extremity tapered to a-point to provide convenient means for preventing -the holder from slipping away from the work, and having its other l extremity shaped `in the form of a handle. 1
of the principles thereof, in which:
With the above and other objects in view' which will. appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel con` struction, combination and 'arrangement 'of y parts substantially as hereinafter describedy and particularly delined by'jthe appendedl claims, it being understood thatsuch changes y in the precise embodimentl ofthe herein disclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claims. l Y Y In the accompanyingv drawing, I have illustrated A one `complete example of the physical .embodiment of myv inventiony constructed according to the best mode I have' so far devised for theJ practical application Figure 1 is a planview thereof, with a portion broken away to show details of construction; v n
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken longitudi nally through Fig. 1 on the line 2'-2.
Fig. 3 is atransverse sectional View taken` on` the line 3-'3 of Fig. 1;'
Fig. ais a plan view'of the underneath v steps or lugs 12 formed thereon adapted for rying member 10.
1919.- serial Na 255,639. ide of the novelrasp y'or file receiver used in 'connection *withmy' tool holder; f
Fig. 5 is a view, part ins'ectioniand'p'art in elevation of a portion of'm'yl holde'rf-illustrating a brush'connectedV therewith; j j 'y Figf isa View, part insection andrpart Vin elevation, said view being taken on'the linee-corrige' and* j Fig. 7 is a planpviewv of the rear facezof i theplate used to adjustably secure' the brush 65 de icted in Figp to theftool holder. roceeding now tothe description ofthe drawing, the numeral 5 designates the holder c proper made in one piece and having one end shaped to provide a convenient form of handle 6, and having its other vend taperedv to form a retaining end or member 7. Throughout the greater portion `0f the length of the holderV is an elongated Slot or opening 8. Surrounding the opening of the holder is a flange 9 to provide'a guideway for the tool carrying member 10.
Projectingv inwardly from the flange 9 on each side of the opening 8 is a rib 11 having engagement in notches 13 in the under side of the tool carrying member 10; The tool carrying member-10 is retained in the frame 5 by means of a transverse plate 14 engaging the outer. side of the ribs 11 and held inpla'ce by means of a binding screw or wingnut 15 engaging a stud 16 carried bytheftool car- A Fromthe former description itis obvious that vin order to adjust Vthe'v tool carrying member 10 to various positions on the frame it is merelynecessary to unscre'w the nut k15 andposition the member 10, engaginglthe lugs 12 and notches 13, and then VVtighten the nut V15, thus securely fastening said member in place. The tool carrying member 10 is of simple construction, having oneend formed with a lip 17 adapted to receive one, enol of a rasp or le 18, being adjustably .secured at its other end by means of asuitable fastening 19` and` plate 20 adapted to Y engage' the other end of the tool, thus'detachably securing it in its tool carrying I member 10.; i
In Figs. 5, 6
v The holder 22 has formed onits outer side j a pair of parallel vflanges `23 having formed therein notches'24 simllar to the notches A13 `110 j j and 7, thetool 18and the 105 j tool carrying member 10 are replaced bya s wire `brush21 and holder 22 respectively. v j
ofthe `tool carrying member 10i'- The man? fner of securing the brush 21 and'its holder 22 in the frame is identical with that of sei curing the holder 10 therein.
In'practioal use, the Work to be cleaned is set upon a lathe or other suitable' means forrotating the'same, and the rasp or other t'ool securedfin. the frameV 5v is brought to bear against the Work, the tapered portion 7 of the frame being Vengaged in the Hoor or other Vsuitabley support, asWill be readily understood by those skilled in the arttofwhieh an y inventionof this type appertains.-
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A tool holder, comprising Van elongated frame, a tool earr ingk plate movable longitudinallyy on the'v rame, and means forseformed on 'theother of said members (for 'reo-VY operation with said notehes,'and means for securing the tool `carrying member to the Y frame member."
Y l 3. A tool' holder, comprising a frame, a
retaining member on one end of the frame, ahandle on the other end of the frame,` a tool-earryingrmember movable on theframe VVintermediate thezretaining member and thel Y handle, and means for adjustably'seeuring the tool carrying member to thelframe.
soY
'4. A tool vholder Comprising anelongated Y I frame having a slot therein'extendingllongia tudinally` for a greater portion of' its length, Y
a tool vcarrying plate movable longitudinally on the frame,` and clamping meansvpassed Y' Y through said'slot and 4connected with said Vvplateand frame for securing the plate in various Aadj usted positionsV onA the frame;
In testimony whereof, I aix my signature.
