Description
n. E. SANDBERG. ADJUSTABLE DETACHABLE ROD AND FIXTURE SUPPORT."
APPHCATION FILED APR. 24. 1919.
Patented July 6 UNITED STATES PATENT oF icE.
DAVID E; SANDBERG, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
ADJUSTABLE DETACHABLE ROD AND FIXTURE SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 6,1920.
Application filed April 24, 1919. Serial No. 292,275.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAVID E. SANDBERG, a citizen of theUnited States, and a resident of the city of Detroit, in the county of description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon,
which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved type of support comprising brackets attachable upon any suitable projecting member, such as the back of a chair or the projecting molding board of a wall, so that the device when attached may be utilized as a supporting means for bath room fixtures or other articles.
It is an object therefore'of this invention to construct an improved rack or support adapted to be connected upon any suitable object, thus providing a support for mounting different articles or objects, spaced from the object upon which the rack is connected.
It, is also an object of this invention to construct a rack comprising bracket arms in which a supporting rail is mounted, said arms adapted to be connected upon an object and provided with adjustable clamping brackets whereby the entire device is held rigidly connected upon the object for support thereby.
. It is furthermore an object of this invention to construct a rack for attachment upon a wall or article of furniture to provide a supporting rail or rod spaced therefrom comprising brackets adapted to engage in clamping relation upon the article of furniture or wall member, as the case may be, to
hold the rack rigidly supported thereon.
It is finally an object of this invention to construct an improved type of rack simple in construction and operation and readily adjusted for connection upon an article of furniture or other means to support the rack in position for use in supporting bathroom or other similar fixtures.
Other and further important objects of this invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the s ecification and drawings.
The invention Fin a preferred form) is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.
On the drawings Figure 1, is a front elevational view of a wall molding having removably mounted thereon a plurality of fixture supports, em-
bodying the principles of my invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1, showing parts in e1evation.
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of a supporting bracket.
Fig. 4 is a front elevation thereof.
Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the bracket showing a fragmentary sectional portion of a rod supported thereby.
Fig. 6 is a bottom plan view of the supporting bracket.
Fig. 7 is a reduced view taken on line 77, of Fig. 2.
As shown on the drawings:
The reference numeral 1, indicates the wall or any other object or article on which a transverse member, molding or board 2, is mounted or secured. The rod or fixture support consists of a pair of adjustably connected angled clamps or brackets, the upper or main bracket embracing an upright portion 3, with the upper end thereof bent rearwardly at an angle as denoted by the reference numeral 4:, and provided with engaging teeth or wedges 5. The lower portion of the upper bracket is bent outwardly at an angle to form an extension or arm 6, which is directed oppositely to said portion 4:, though substantially parallel thereto, and at its outer end is provided with an eye 7, in which one end of a curtain or towel rod 8, is engaged. An aperture or opening 9, is pro vided near the outer end of the extension portion 6. Each upper bracket near the junction of the portions 3 and 6, thereof is provided with a circular aperture through the arm portion 6, through which a bolt 10, is inserted, having a rounded screw head 11.
The lower or auxiliary bracket comprises an upright portion 12, with the lower portion thereof turned at an angle thereto, as denoted by the reference numeral 13, and provided with engaging teeth or wedges 1.4. The upper portion of the lower bracket is bent outwardly to provide the arm or extension 15, which is provided with an aperture through which the lower end of said bolt 10, engages. A squared nut 16, is threaded on the lower end of said bolt 10, and is prevented from rotation on the bolt by contact with the upright portion 12, of
the auxiliary or lower bracket.
. through the apertured center of the cup holder as shown in Fig. 2.
A lock nut 19, is provided on the bolt 18, for holding the cup holder securely in place. The bolt 18, extends downwardly and has engaged on the lower end thereof a notched or slotted disk or plate 20, for holding tooth brushes.
Fig. 1, also shows the support adapted for use as a supporting means for a U-shaped frame orhanger 22, on which a roll of paper 21, is rotatably mounted.
The operation is as follows:
The support when used is mounted upon the transverse molding 2, or on' any other suitable means, by engaging the portion 4;, of the upper or main bracket, over the upper edge of the member 2, and wedging the teeth 5, into engagement therewith or between the member 2, and the wall 1, as the case may be.. The upper bracket is thus supported in a manner. to sustain loads placed upon the rail or rod 8, one end of which passes through the eye 7, of said upper bracket. A similar support is of course, provided for supporting the other end of the rod 8. A further means is provided for holding the upper bracket rigidly attached in position so as to increase the supporting strength thereof; This is gained by the use of the lower or auxiliary bracket which is engaged along the under edge of the transverse member 2, in a similar manner to which the upper bracket is engaged over the upper edge thereof. The connecting bolt 10, engaging said respectiveupper and lowerbrackets is provided, to draw said respective brackets toward one another in clamping relation upon the article or object on which the device is attached.
As shown in Figs. land 2, the apertured arm 6, of the support is adapted'to'readily afford a means permitting the cup holder 17, y
for a roll of paper, the supporting frame 22, of which, may be engaged in the eye 7, of the upper bracket of the support; The improved supports may be used for numerous other purposes, such as supports for a' glass shelf 23, as shown in'Fig. 1. Curtain rods may also be conveniently supported by a pair of supports of the class described.
I am aware that numerous details ofconstruction, may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of my invention and-I therefore do not pur pose limiting the patent granted further than necessitated by the prior art. 1
I claim as my invention:
1. A bathroom fixture support comprising a pair of apertured clamping' members, gripping means integrally formed thereon to engage a supporting molding, meansiprojecting through said clamping menib'ers adapted to draw'the' same together to se-,
In testimony. whereof I have hereunto an 'apertured horizontal projecting subscribed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
