To all whom it may concern; j f Be it known that I, EDwAnD 11.8mm, a citizen of the United States, residing =-at Kevil, in the county of Ballard and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grain Scouring Machines; and I do'hereby declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such asiwill enable others sln'lled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in grain scouring machines, and has for its primary object'to admit of the machine be-[ ing kept filled to its maximum capacity ,during the scouring operation.
Another object of the invention is-to admit of the major portionof the liberated foreign matter that has been released from the grain being drawn from the machine durin the'scouriiig operation, and also ad mit of any residue, whichaccompanies the grain during itsdischarge, being liberated therefrom. g
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel type of mechanism fo'rregulating the discharge of the' graiin from the machine.

Referring to the drawings in'detail, the letter A designates the scouring machine as an entirety, andwhich machine includes a frame structure 1 having mounted therein, at one side thereof, a cylindrical shaped casing 2. Spacing elements 12 are interposed" between adjacent scouring blades and hold the same properly spaced. The lower end of the cyl inder 3 is formed to provide a discharge spout 13, which projects a distance below the lower end'of the casing 2 and is received by a cylindrical sleeve 14, which is adapted tov have vertical adjustment on the spout 13 and is carried by a supporting. element consisting of an annular collar 15 adapted'to engage beneath an annular lip 16 on the upper .end of the sleeve 14, and a pair of arms 17 projectingfrom the sleeve 14, at diametrically opposite points, and have theirouter ends overlyingopposed horizontally'disposed bars 18. carriedby the frame 11,.the said outer ends of the arms 17 having set screws '19 adjustable "therethrough and against the bars 18,so as to'eflectmovement of the arms17 when turned 'in either direction. An inclined chute 20 is disposed below the cylinder 3 and has its upper end en-. larged, as shown at 21, and locateddirectly below the lower end of the 'sleeve.14,and has its lower end extending beyond the forward side ofthe frame 1 and 'arranged in communication with adischarge chamber 22. The lower end of the shaft 6 extends, through the discharge spout 13 and through an open ing in the lower wall ofthe chute 2.0 and has the terminal thereof journaled in "a bearing 23 carried by a cross bar 24, on thefrarne. A collar 25' is secured to the inner surface of the lower wall of the chute20 and-stir rounds the adjacent portion of the lower end when the shaft is rotated.v

Suitably mounted within the frame structure, and to one side of the casing 2, is a fan casing 37, having a suction fan 38 therein, mounted on a vertical shaft 39, which extends through the fan casing and has one end journaled in a transverse bar 40 at the lower end of the frame structure 1, and, its
upperend journaled in a'transverse bar 41 at the upper end of the frame structure, and provided with a pulley '42, which has connection with. a pulley. 43, carried by the upper end of the shaft 6 by means of a belt 44.
The discharge chamber 22 consists of a rectangular shaped hollow body having its lower end opened and having the walls of its upper end pressed inwardly, as shown at'45, and terminally formed to provide a cylindrical portion 46. The rear wall of thechamber 22 is provided withan opening 47, which communicates with the lower end of the chute 20. The upper end of the cylindrical portion 46 has connection with the lowerend of ayertical pipe 48, which has its upper end coupled to one end of a horizontally disposed pipe 49, the opposite end of the pipe 49 being connected to the upper end of a yertical pipe 50, the said pipe 50 in turn having its opposite and extending through thetop of the fan casing 37 and communicating with the interior ofthe fan casing. v
A vertical pipe 51 has its lower end extendingthrough the top of the fan casing 37 and has its upper end communicating with the lower endof a horizontally dis- 48 and is adapted, when closed, to cut off the casing 2 and the scouring cylinder 3 is closed posed pipe 52, the opposite end of the pipe 52 communicating with the space between the scouring cylinder 3: and the casing 2. The casing '2 is provided, at the lower end thereof, andat diametrically opposite points, with air inlets 53 which are adapted to be closed by means of valves 54, slidably. mounted on the outer side of the casing 2.

The grain will work downwardly through the scouring cylinder and out through the discharge spout 13 and discharge into the upper end of; the chute 20, and thence discharge. from the chute 20 through'the-opening 47 into thechamber Y 22. The rotation of the fan 29 will cause a suction to ,be created in the chamber 22, which will draw any of the foreign matter, whichv accompanies thegrain,-'-when it is discharged into the chamber 22, into the fan casing and outthrough thepipe 56. It will,of,course, be understood that the suc tion created by the fan will not be sufficient to draw particles of grain into the fan casing, the grain being heavier than the matter liberated therefrom. 1

A grain scouring machine comprising a casing having closed upper and lower ends and provided with-"air inlets positioned ad jacent its lower end, a perforated scouring cylinder positioned in the casing and extending through the upper and lower ends thereof, a chute positioned to receive scoured grain from the lower end of the cylinder, a vertically disposed open ended spout having the chute communicating therewith ata point intermediate the height of the spout, grain seourers positioned in sald cyllnder, a fan housing, a rotatable shaft extending vertically through the fan housing, a fan carried by the shaft within the housing, a dust pipe extending from the casing adjacent its upper end and communicating with said fan housing, and a dust pipe leading from the upper end of said spout and communicating "15 I with the upperportion-of said fan housing.
