DISI LAY DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 29, 1920.
Application filed March 25, 1919. Serial No. 285,092.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY L. A. FRANK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plainview, in the county of Hale and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in. Display Devices; and
I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
' This invention relates to improvements in display devices, and has for one of its ob-' jects the provision of a device of this character especially adaptable for displaying wearing apparel and the like, and one that will not require a great amount of space and which will be out of the way when not examining the articles, thereon.
Another object of this invention is the provision of an apparel-supporting mem-.
ber having means attached thereto for suspending it from the ceiling of aroom and is capable of being lowered when desiring to examine the article thereon, and which will automatically return to an elevated position out of the way when released.
A further object of thisinvention is the provision of a display device of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable .and eflicient, and which'may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively now cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement ofparts as will be hereinafter more fully described, claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which: I
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a display device constructed in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view of the same,
Fig. 3 is a plan view, illustrating the article-supporting member,
Fig. 4 is a detail sectional "view of a form of flange carried by the article-supporting member,
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional view,
and
illustrating a hook carried by the articlesupporting member, v V
F g. 6'is a detail sectional view, illustrating a form of clamp carried by the article-supporting member,
Fig. 7 is a vertical sectional view of means for normally supporting the articlesupporting member in an elevated .position,
Fig. 8 is a transverse sectional view of the same, taken on the line 8-8 of Fig. 7,
Fig. 9 is a similar view, taken on the line 9--9 ofFig. 7.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates as an entirety an art cle supporting member consisting of a ring or hoop 2 having secured thereon spring actuated clasps 3 for attaching collars and similar wearing apparel to the ring or hoop 1. A plurality of books 4 are secured to the ring or hoop 2 from the inner face'thereof from which may be suspended waists, shirts or other apparel that are usually placed upon garment hangers. Resilient straps 5, are secured to the outer face of the ring or hoop 2, as shown at 6 and have their free ends bent to form n er grips 7 adapted to form clasps or grips or securing neckties and like wearing apparel to the ring or hoop. A plurality of chains or flexible elements 8 have one of their ends secured to the rim or hoop 2, as illustrated at 9, while their opposite ends are secured to a plate 10 carrying a hook 11 and a loop 12. I
A rod 13 is formed upon one end with an eye '14; and receives a hook 11, and has mounted thereon a slidable collar 15 on which is positioned a coil spring 16. The other end of the coil spring 16 bears against a collar 17 fixed upon the rod 13 and engages one end of a casing 18, as illustrated in Fig. 7. The casing 18 is of hollow formation and has its lower end closed by a cap 19 provided with an opening to slidably receive the rod 13 permitting the collar 17 to bear against the same. The cap 19 may be secured to the casing 18 in any Well known manner, and has positioned thereon a coil spring 20 located within the casing 18 and has its other end disposed against the partition 21 carried by the casing. A partition 22 is carried by the casing at the outer end thereof and cooperates with the partition 21 in supporting a tube 23. The
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing fromvthe spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
A display device comprising a tubular casing, spaced partitions in said casing, a tube extending through the partitions and forming a weight chamber between itself and the partitions and easing, one of said partitions having an openingto permit heavy substance to be placed in and removed from the weight chamber, a flexible element secured to one end of the casing and passing over a supported pulley and downwardly in said tube, a cap closing the lower end of said casing and'having an opening therein, a rod. extending through the opening of said cap and into the tube and connected to the flexible element, an apparel attaching element secured to said rod, a cushioning means on said rod between the cap and the apparel attaching element, and a flexible element connected to said rod depending below the apparel attaching element. a
In testimony whereofI a'lfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
