Description

W. E. GOSCHKE.
MUSICAL TOY.
APPLICATION FILED NOV.24, 1919 Patented J 11116 29, 1920.
I Goschke //Vl/f/Y7'0Q UNITED STATES WILLIAM E. GOSCHKE, or LOWELLVILLE, onro.
MUSICAL TOY.
Application filed November 24, 1919. Serial No. 340,437.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. GosGHKE, citizen of the United States of America, residing at Lowellville, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Musical Toys, of which the following is a specification. p
This invention relates to improvements in sound producing devices, and particularly to improvements in musical toys for useon festal occasions and celebrations in general, on the street and in public places, such as at football games and on similar occasions.
Another object of the invention is to provide a musical toy capable of giving forth a short tune which may be taken from a popular air, or the like.
Another object of the invention is to provioe an irregular disk provided with vibrating tongues, said tongues extending outwardly from the central portion of the disk so that their ends will form a circle, thereby providing means for setting the tongues in vibration through one contact point.
Other features of this invention will be disclosed in the description and claim which follow hereinafter:
In'the drawings illustrating thep'rinciple of this invention and the best mode now known to me of applying that principle, Figure 1 is a top view plan of the device; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device; Fig. 3 is a detailed view showing the irregular disk and vibrating tongues in relation to a shaft and handle thereon.
By referring to Figs. 1 and 2, it will be seen that I have provided a casing 1 which may be varied in form somewhat from that shown in the drawing; within the casing l, I have provided an irregular disk 2 which Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 29 the shaft 3 is a crank and handle 7 is securely fastened to a shaft 3, which is rotatably secured at points 4 and 5 on the side walls of the casing l. Securely fastened into the irregular disk 2 are vibrating tongues 6. Securely fastened to one end of At the smaller end of the casing 1, I have installed a weight 8. This weight 8 also acts as a support for a contact arm 9. i
In operating this device the By moving the arm in an elliptical path the weight 8 due to centrifugal force causes the weight end 11 to swing around the shaft 3, thereby causing the tongues 6 to vibrate by means of the contact with arm 9.
By referring to Fig. 3 it will be seen that the tongues 6 gradually become longer as In a device of the class described, the combination of a casing, a weight secured in one end of said casing, a contact arm within said casing and secured to the above mentioned weight, an irregular disk rotatably mounted within said casing, vibrating tongues I of varying lengths registering with the above mentioned contact arm and secured to said irregular disk, and means for rotating said disk. V
In'testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
