R. O. McASSEY.
PR IMING DEVICE FOR GASO'LENE ENGINES. APPLICATION FILED-SEPT. 5, 1919.

ROLLIN O. lVIqASSEY, OF DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
PRIMING DEVICE FOR GASOLENE-ENGINES.
p i i f Letters Patent Patented June 29, 1920.
Application filed September 5, 1919. Serial No. 321,934;
To-all whom it'may concern.
Be it known that I, ROLLIN O. MCASSEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a new and useful Priming Device for Gasolene-Engines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for introducing an explosive liquid into the can bureter independently of the regular means used when running.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, cheap and easily installed device which will be easily operated and which can be attached to a carbureter without alteration of the carburetor except the removin of the needle valve.
The numeral 1 denotes a Holly carbureteir; 2,21 manifoldpartly broken away; 3, the stem oi my invention; 4, the reservoir; 5*,- the lid mounted onsaid reservoir; 6, the conduit leading from the reservoir into the conduit 7 in the stem 3, said item 3 being provided'wjith a lmob 8 having holes 9.
- therein.
To install the invention, the regular needle valve of the Holly airbureter 15 removed and my invention substituted therc- 40 for, shown in Fig. l.
' In cold weather when the engine is hard to start, it has been found that a small quantity of ether introduced within the carburct'er will cause the engine to startmore readily than'if gasolene alone were relied upon. \Vith my invention the ether is first poured into the reservoir 4 and runs down through the conduit 6 into the conduit 7 and thence into the carbureter. The stem of my invention is like the regular needle valve except the conduit-7, and performs the same function. as the regular needle valve.
What I claim as new anddesire to secure by Letters Patent is:
said reservoir with the interior of the iniX- in'g chamber of a carburetor in which said needle valve may be mounted, adapted to convey a liquid from said reservoir to said mixing chamber; for the purposes set iorth.
2. A device ofthe class described, comprising a needle valve adapted. for use in a carburetor, said needle valve having a conduit therein, leading from the top thereof into the mixing chamber of the carburetor in which it is mounted; and a rescrvoir mounted on the top of said needle valve and having a conduit connecting with said first named conduit; for the purpose of conveying an explosive liquid from the outside of the carburetor into the mixing chamber thereof.
ROLLIN O. MQi-LSSEY.
