Description

H. S. DANZIGER.
Apparatus for Des troying Insects.
No. 134,468. Patented Dec"31,1872.
AM. PH070 L ITHDEHAFHIG CON. K OSBORNES PROCESS.)
HIRSCH S. DANZIGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPRQVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR DESTROVING INSECTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 13Ld65, dated December 31, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Hrnscn S. DANZIGER,
'of the city, county, and State of New York,
have invented an improvedapparatus for destroyingand exterminating flies, mosquitoes, and other flying insects, of which the following is a specification:
This invention consists in an apparatus consisting essentially of a frame, two or more interchangeable funnel-like receptacles, and one or more intermediate guide-tunnels, whereby powder which is noxious to insects but innocuous to human beings may be showered alternately from one receptacle to the other, and the air be thereby s0 impregnated with the odors of the powder as to exterminate insects from the apartment in which the aparatus is used. and this without losing the powder or distributing it about.
In the accompanyingdrawing, Figure 1 is a side view of an apparatus constructed according to my invention, and Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both'figures.
A is the frame of the apparatus, consisting of a tripod, or three legs furnished at equal distances apart with three rings a a a, which form supports for the receptacles B B and guide-funnel 0. It is furnished with a handle, b, to facilitate the removal of the apparatus from place to place. The receptacles B B are funnel-shaped andinterchangeable, and whichever is uppermost is fitted with a cover, D,
which has attached to it a stick or poker, c, with which the powder in the receptacle may be stirred up should it clog in the neck thereof. The bottom of each receptacle is furnished with a movable plug, f. The guide- 'funnel O is simply an open-bottomed downwardly-tapering cup, and is supported in the middle ring a of the frame A midway between the receptacles B B, in line with both.
To use the apparatus, the powder mixed with sand is introduced intothe upper receptacle B, which is then covered, and the plug f is next removed from its bottom. The powder will then shower from it to the guide-funnel into the lower receptacle till the upper is emptied. The plug is reinserted into the upper receptacle and it and the other are inter changed. The plug is then removed from the upper, and the operation is repeated.
The odor given out by the powder is so noxions to all insects as to exterminate them, but is perfectly harmless to human beings.
Claim.
An apparatus, consisting of a frame, A, two or more interchangeable receptacles, B B, and one or more intermediate guide-funnels, O, substantially as described, for the purpose set forth.
