Description

E. F. KANDLBINDER.
DIE.
APPLICATION FILED AueJs'; 191 9.
Patented June 29, 1920.-
Ewe/22x EMELIA F, KANDLBINDER, 0F SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS.
DIE.
Specificationof Letters Patent.
Application filed. August 19, 1919. Serial No. 318,578.
To all to lwm it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMELIA F. KAND BINDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of San gamon and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Die; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to dies and has for its object to provide a die whereby a blank will be out then formed with aflange adapted to be secured to a wall, said flange having a right angle portion the opposite marginal edges of which are bent downwardly and inwardly thereby forming channels. The ar ticle formed being a support preferably for milk bottles.
A further object is to provide dies whereby the first operation shears out the blank from sheet metal, then said blank is so positioned that the opposite side flanges will be bent downwardly and the supporting r plate also bent downwardly after which the horizontal flanges are bent inwardly.
Vith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of theinvention.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the male member of the die;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the female member of the die; and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the milkbottle holder after the same has. been formed.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a cast iron block of the female member of the die, and 2 a cast iron block of the male member. Block 1 is provided with longitudinally arranged shearing bars 3 which are adapted to cooperate with the shearing bars 4 of the member 2 whereby the sides 5 of the blank will be sheared out, the end 6 of the blank being sheared by the shearing bars 7 and 8. At the same time the body of the blank is being sheared, the back 9 is also sheared by the cutting edges 10 and 11 of the blanking block 12 and the female die 18 adapted to cooperate therewith. In thedepression of the female die a series of punches lt are disposed which punches pass through apertures '15 in the blanking block 12 thereby forming holes for the reception of screws, there being lugs 16 adapted to cooperate with apertures 17 in the blanking block so that the die members will register and be guided and held in proper registration. After the blank has been formed the curved surfaces 17 will force the flanges 18 of the body member downwardly at right angles to the portion 19. After this operation the blanking block 20 is placed between the flanges 18, said flanges extending upwardly, then when the dies are again brought together forming blocks 21, will engage the edges of the flanges and force them inwardly thereby forming channels 22 in which the flange of a milk bottle neck is adapted to be disposed. Then the dies are again parted after which the flange 9 of the holder is bent down by any suitablemeans.
From the above it will be seen that dies are provided whereby a milk bottle holder and support of the type described may be formed accurately and quickly.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 1. A die for forming channels on each side of a metallic body member comprising two die members, said die members having longitudinal bars whereby right angle bends are formed 011 the edges of the body member, one of said die members carrying a forming core adapted to be fit between the bent flanges, and longitudinal bars having concave surfaces carried by the other die member and adapted to engage the edge of the flanges whereby said edges will be turned toward each other thereby forming channels.
2. A die for forming channels on each side of a metallic body member comprising two die members, said die members having longitudinal bars adapted to interengage when the members are brought together thereby forming right angle flanges on the edges of the body member, that is being formed, one of said die members carrying a forming core adapted to fit between the bent flanges, longitudinal inwardly concaved bars carried by the other die member and adapted to register with the core whereby when the die members are brought together the edges of the flanges of the article being formed Patented June'29, 1920.,
will be turned inwardly thereby forming channels.
3. A die for forming channels and cutting out a blank, said channels being formed on the edge of the blank comprising two die members, said die members having longitudinal cutting and bending bars adapted to interengage when the die members are brought together, said interengaging of the bars bending right angle flanges on the edges of the body of the metal being formed, a male member carried by one of the die members and adapted to engage with and cooperate with a female cutting die carried by the other die member whereby a portion is formed in the sheet which may be bent downwardly forming a support, and a forming core carried by one of said dies and adapted to be disposed between the bent flanges, longitudinally disposed concaved bars carried by the other die member and adapted to register with the edges of the core member whereby the flanges will be bept at right angles thereby forming channe s.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
