Description

E. D. BLACKBURN.
HOSE CLAMP.
APPucmqN FILED APR. lo. 1919.
UNITED srArEs PATENT OFFICE.
EMERY D. BLACKURN, or sAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
' v HOSE-CLAMP.
kapplicati@ filed April 1o,
To all 'whom 'it may concern.' f i Be it known that I, EMERY I). BLACK- BURN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hose-Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in hose clamps. It has been especially devised for the purpose of clamping leaky or cut hose used for supplying air from an' air compressor to riveting or like tools.
The object of the invention is to provide a device by which the hose can be clamped very quickly and conveniently, thus economizing in compressed air, and which is readily adjustable for all sizes of hose.
In the accompanying drawing'Figure 1 is a side view of the clamp in its extended position; Fig. 2 is asectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a sectional viewv on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1, showing the clamp in its operative position clamping an air hose.
Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates a bar, a mediate portion of which is straight and having at one end a short curved portion 2 and at the other end a curved long portion 3, for the most 'part in an arc of a circle about the other end of the bar as center. Said portion 3 is formed on one side with i'atchet teeth 4. To the free end of the short portion 2 is pivoted, as shown atk 5, the reduced end of a lever 6 which rextends to one .side of, and beyond, the curved portion 3 of the bar. The side of the lever 6 adjacent to the ratchet teeth 4 is reduced in thickness, as shown at 7, fora short distance, and the side of said lever 6 farthest from the straight portion of the'bar `is formed within an angular groove 8, the inner side of which is adapted, as shown .y in Fig. 2, to engageany one of the ratchet teeth 4. The pivot 5 is sufficiently loose to permit the lever 6 to be movedover saidy ratchet teeth to any position desired to engage a flexible pipe, the pressure of the pipe 1holding the bar against the nearest one of the ratchet teeth which are then on the side of said y lever 6 remote from the straight portion of the bar. f
Upon said straight portion r`can slide a saddle 9 having a convexly curved upperl vsurface 1, and uponwhich can be laid a hose pipe 12. The lever 6 ris then depressed Specification of Letters Patent.

' teeth 4.
The saddle 9 can be moved longitudinally f alonfY the bar 1 to vary its position for dif- 1. A clamp comprising a bar, one end of which extends transversely to the main porf tion of the bar and integrally therewith and has at a side thereof a series of ratchet teeth, a lever pivoted to the other end of the bar and extending beyond said transverse portion and having adjacent to said transverse portion a part adapted to engage any one of said ratchet teeth, and means on said bar between which and the lever a hose pipe can be clamped.
2. A hose clamp comprising a bar having a terminal portion extending transversely to its mediate portion, kmeans. upon which a hose to be clamped is placed slidable upon said mediate portion, and a lever pivoted to the other end of the bar, extending beyond said terminal portion and adapted to cooperate ,with saidmeans to clamp a hose; and means on said transversely extending portion and said lever for locking the lever in clamping position.r
hose clamp comprising a bar having a straight mediate portion, a short curved terminal portion at one end and a comparatively long curved portion at the other end, the latter portion being provided with a series of ratchet teeth, a lever pivoted at the first-named end of .the bar and eX- tending beyond the curved portion of the other end and having a recess in the side next adjacent to said ratchet teeth and an angular groove, one side of which is adapted to engage a side of any one of said ratchet teeth to retain the lever in position, and a Patented June 22, 1920.4
terminal portion at one end and a com-perm gage a side of any one of said ratchet 10 tively long Curved portion. at the other end, teeth to. retain. the lever in position, a saddle the latter portion beingA provided With a Slidable upon the straight portion of the series of' ratchet teeth7 a lever pivotedf" at bar, the side of said saddle next adjacent the first-named end of the bar andextendto said leverbeing eonvexly rounded, and ing,r beyond the enrved portion of the other sides of the bar being lontfgitudinally"V 15 end and having a reoepss in the side next adgrooved, and screws` screwed through said jacent to said ratchet teeth and an angular saddle and entering said grooves;
groove, one Side of which is adapted to env n E. D. BLACKBURN.
