Be it known that I, GHaRLEs N. DET- \VILER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Toledo,-in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Stud-Attaching Means for Electric Outlet "Members; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which.
it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanymg drawings, and to the characters of reference marked. thereon, which form a part ofthis specification.
This invention relates to terminal outlet boxes and plates for use in connection with electric wiring, and has for its object the provision of simple and improved means for securing fixture studs thereto in an easy and rapid manner.
The invention is fully described in the following specification, and while, in its broader aspect, it is capable of embodiment in numerous forms, a. preferred embodiment thereof is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,--
Figure 1 is a plan view of a terminal fiX ture member embodying the invention, with a fixture stud attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, and Fig. 3 is a per-. spective view of theterrninal member with the fixture stud removed therefrom.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a terminal fixture member, in the present instance of plate form, which is provided with the customary knock-outs 2, to provide holes therein through which terminal wires or conduits may be projected, as well understood in the art. The member 1 is also pronails may be projected to secure it to a wall, ceiling or other support. 4 designates the customary fixture stud having the feet 5' radiating from its base.
In carrying out my invention, I provide the member 1 on its outer side and at one side of its center with a socket 6 and at the opposite side of its center'with a socket 7,
which open inwardly toward each other.
These sockets are formed, in the present instance, by slitting the member at right angles to a line drawn diametrically thereof and intersecting the slits, and portions of the member without the slits are then by bein projection 9 and the recess 7 formed there- 7 of greater radial depth than the other. 'lhe sockets 6 and 7 are of suitable size to receive the ends of the diametrically opposed feet 5 of the fixture stud 4.
In attaching a fixture stud to the terminal member, it is only necessary to first insert a foot 5 thereofinto the deeper socket 7 a suflici'ent depth to enable theopposite foot 5 to be placed in register with'the socket 6, after which the stud is moved laterally to cause one foot thereof to enter the socket 6 and theopposite foot to bepartially withdrawn from the socket 7, as shown in Fig 1. The stud is then secured against removal from the member 1 by a screw 10, which in the present instance, is threaded through an opening 11 in the projection 9, and in position for its inner' end to have sto contact with the end of the stud foot, whlch is inserted into the socket 7.
If desired,'retaining lips 12 maybe struck outwardly from or otherwise suitably formed on the member 1 in position for the other two feet 5 of the terminal stud to be forced thereunder when the stud is moved to forceone of the two feet into the socket 6.
Should an exceptionally heavy fixture be used in connection with the stud it might be desired to insert screws through the customary apertures 13 in the stud .feet and registering apertures 14 in the member and then into the wall, ceiling or framework carrying the terminal member 1.
With my invention a fixture stud having the terminal wires projected laterally from its base and connected to the lead-out or terminal wires, which are projected though the knock-out openings, may be easily and quickly secured to the terminal member by slipping one foot 5 thereof, to the full expressed outward-as indicated at and 9, the i I is capable of numerous modifications and changes without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is,
1. An electric outlet box or plate having opposedsockets in its outer side with one of greater depth than the other, and a fixture stud fitting against said side and having opposed feet removably inserted into said sockets and held by the walls thereof to said member.

A, terminal member of the class described, having opposed. sockets, a fixture stud having opposed feet removably inserted into said sockets and held by the walls thereof to said member, said stud being removable ,by lateral movements relative to the member fromengagement with said sockets, and lips projecting from the member and engaging with the feet of the stud when the stud is interengaged. with the sockets.
