TOY DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 18, 1919. Serial No. 318,114.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, IsiDoR ZION, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Ridgeeld, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Devices, of which the following is a specification, such as will enableI those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to toy devices, and the object thereof is to provide a device of this class designed to be moved over ayfloor or other surface land which is provided with movably ysupported figure members which are actuated by the movement of said toy device, and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified, which is simple in construction and operation.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following speciication, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement i are designated by suitable reference characters in each ofthe views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of the complete device;
Fig. 2 a transverse section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 a bottom plan view of the device;
Fig. 4 a perspective detail view of one of a number of spring supports which I employ and which are shown in use in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing; and, f Y i Fig. 5a section on the line 5 5 of Fig. 41of a modied form of spring which I em- P 05- In the drawing I have shown at 10 a box; shaped frame, which is rectangular in form and which opens'downwardly. The frame 10 is provided in the top thereof and ad]- acent to one side wall with an aperture 11 through which a cord or similar member 12 may be passed and secured to the frame 10 at 13 and used for the purpose of pulling the toy device over th'e floor or other surface.
The frame 10 is mounted on three rollers 14, 15 and 16, the rollers 14 and 15 being rotatably mounted on pins 17 secured to a transverse bearing block 18, which is countersunk or recessed as shown at 19 to receive said roller. The roller 16 is rotatably mounted on a pin 20 secured to depending members 21 on the bottom of the frame 10 said rollerr passing upwardlyV through anV 'aperture 26 in said block and in the top of said frame as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
A disk 27 is rotatably mounted in the frame 10 on a central stud 28 which passesl downwardly through the top of the frame 10, and said disk is adapted to bear `on the top portions of the rollers 16 and 24, the rollers 16 serving to rotate said disk by frictional engagement therewith as the toy device is moved over a floor or surface.
Patented'J une 8, 1920.
The top `of the frame 10 is provided with a plurality of projecting members 29 which are located outwardly of the periphery of said disk, as clearly shown, and connected with the bottom face-of said disk are spring attaching devices 30, one of which is shown and outwardly as shown at 33 to form spring gripping members for a plurality of` figure members 34 which are adapted to be detachably connected therewith. The 4figure members 34 are each provided centrally of` the bottom thereof with cam-shaped shoe members 35 which fit within the cross head 32 orv curved portions 33 thereof as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing, and these spring members, or the cross heads 32 there-V of,rare curved to' conform with the curvature of the cam-shaped shoe members 35.v
It will be apparent that the spring at# taching devices 30 in addition to forming tensional means for supporting the figured members 34 also form metallic facings for the cam shoe members 35, which will reduce the friction between said members and the projecting members 29 on the frame 10 as i y constructed as to permit of the vertical asl well as a slight lateral `movement of the members 34. Y
In Fig. 5 of the drawing I have shown a slight modification in the form of the spring attaching devices 30 in which a side spring memberl 36 is stamped and bent from the part 3l ofthe device and another side spring 37 is extended fromv the cross head 32 and bent upwardly in the manner shown in Fig. 5, and the. function of these springs 36 and 37 is to aid in the supportingof the figure members 34 andv to prevent the accidental detachment of said members from said devices.- l
It will be readily understood that while I haveishown the frame l() as supportedvby three j rollers, and provided the roller 2li which serves to balance the disk 27, or hold it in a horizontal position, my invention is not limited to this Vspecific arrangement ofV y rollers, and changes in and modifications of the various details of construction herein shownand'described may be made, within thev scope of the appended claims, withoutV departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages. Y
Havingy fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Y Letters Patent, is
l. A toy device of the class described comprising a frame having a horizontal top, rollers forsupporting said frameto permit of its movement over a surface, a disk rotatably mounted in connection with the top f said frame, means for rotating said disk 'm the movement of said :trame over a surface,Y` figure members movably connected j with said disk, and a plurality of projecting said disk, and` plurality of projecting vmembers on the top o f said frame and in connection with whichsaid figure members are adapted to operate.
2. Altoy device of the class described comprising a frame, a disk rotatably mounted in said frame, means for supporting said frame to permit of its movement over a ioor surface, means for rotating said disk in the movement of said frame, a plurality'of figureV members, and spring attaching devicesV for detachably supporting said members in connection with said disk.
3. A toy device of the class described comprising a frame, a disk rotatably mounted in said frame, means for supporting said frame to permit of its movement over a floor surface, means for rotating said disk in the movement of said frame, a plurality ,of figure members, tensional means Vfor supporting said members in y'connection with members on said vframe outwardly of the periphery of said disk and in connection with which said figure members are adapt- Y ed to operate.
4L. A toy device of the class described comprising a frame, a disk rotatably mounted in said frame, a plurality of rollers connected with said frame to permit of Vthe nected with said frame to4 permit of thev movement of said frame over a surface', one of said rollers beingadaptedto operate in connection withsaid disk torotate the same in the movement of said frame, another roller for holding said disk in a horizontal position, and aplurality ofl spring attaching devices connected ywith and extended beyond the periphery of said disk, a plurality of ligure members adapted to be detachablyV connected with said 'spring attaching de-V vices and the top ofv said frame being provided outwardly of the periphery of said disk with a plurality of projecting members in connection with which said figure mem; bers are adapted to'ope'rate.y l' Y Y 6. A device of the class described, comprising a frame, a disk rotatably mounted in said frame, rollers mounted in said framey to permit of the movement thereof over a surface, one of said rollers being adapted to operate in connection with said disk torotate the same, said frame being provided outwardly -of the periphery of saidy disk with a plurality of spaced projecting members, figure devices provided with camshaped shoe members, and spring attaching devices secured to said disk and adapted to be detachably connected with the cam# shaped shoe members of said figure members.
