Each bracket has longitudinally extending plate 13 which is curved inwardly at caclr end therely providing a rounded surface conforming to the curvature of the check strap, so that wear on the strap is reduced to a minimum. Each plate has upper and lower outwardly and longitudinally extend ing horizontal flanges l4: and 15 throughout its length between which the check strap 9 is maintained and guided in horizontal position. The check strap is pressed toward each plate by the free end of a fiat steel spring 17, which extends inwardly from a sup-porting angle iron 18 which is adjustah r connected to a laterall gorojecting arm 19 of the corre spending supporting bracket. As shown in tile upper horizontal arm 20 of the iron 18, is slotted at 21, to receives headed bolt which extends through an op in slot 23, in the arm 19. These slots permit e adjustment of the angle iron, and a on bolt maintains the adjustment. hen the tension. oi each spring on the check strap can be regulated so as to furnish the desir d resistance to the picker stick.

In the use of this checking mechanism, the picker stick is smoothly checkedas it nears the end "of its stroke in both directions by engagement with. the endless check strap which then moves with the stick throughout the remainder of its stroke, the freedom of this mo losing controlled by the tensiou oi? u e springs 17. The check strap is of: just sufficient length to permit the "proper range of movement of the picker stick. By this checking mechanism. a perfect checking of the shuttle is insured. It will be note that all parts of the brackets with which the check strap engages are so formed as to produce a minimum Wear of the hand.
