it slot-in that 1, DAVID Snnnenien,
vof Fall River, in the county oiyBriet-ol and State of lilassacliusetts, have invented certain' new and useful improvements in ilushionr pring Shuttle'Checks; and i do hereby declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i
This invention relates to checks for picker sticks'of looms, and is an improvement upon check "for th in United States Letters 3? e t of lihoades, filo. 1,119,76l, December 1, 1 The objects of the im iroveinent i the check strap both above and be- )roved checking mechanism in 8,11 of brackets 8 which form sup-- or't and guide for endless check strap 9 within which and between the two hrac fcts the picker stick travels.-- Each bracket eX- tends downwardly from the lay to which hoth ln'ackets are secured by a single bolt 10 passing through the lay and a hole 11 in each lorack t, and by a screw 12 for each hracket. Each bracket has longitudinally extending plate 13 which is curved inwardly at caclr end therely providing a rounded surface conforming to the curvature of the check strap, so that wear on the strap is reduced to a minimum. Each plate has upper and lower outwardly and longitudinally extend ing horizontal flanges l4: and 15 throughout its length between which the check strap 9 is maintained and guided in horizontal position. The check strap is pressed toward each plate by the free end of a fiat steel spring 17, which extends inwardly from a sup-porting angle iron 18 which is adjustah r connected to a laterall gorojecting arm 19 of the corre spending supporting bracket. As shown in tile upper horizontal arm 20 of the iron 18, is slotted at 21, to receives headed bolt which extends through an op in slot 23, in the arm 19. These slots permit e adjustment of the angle iron, and a on bolt maintains the adjustment. hen the tension. oi each spring on the check strap can be regulated so as to furnish the desir d resistance to the picker stick.
In the use of this checking mechanism, the picker stick is smoothly checkedas it nears the end "of its stroke in both directions by engagement with. the endless check strap which then moves with the stick throughout the remainder of its stroke, the freedom of this mo losing controlled by the tensiou oi? u e springs 17. The check strap is of: just sufficient length to permit the "proper range of movement of the picker stick. By this checking mechanism. a perfect checking of the shuttle is insured. It will be note that all parts of the brackets with which the check strap engages are so formed as to produce a minimum Wear of the hand.
l. A picker check for looms, including, in combination. With a picker, a picker stick, a longitudinally movable endless check strap with Will picker the ends to its strokes, supporting brackets for said strap at each side thereof, each bracke having a l'ongitu.dinally extending plate with outwardly extending guide lie-n es, one above and. the other below the check strap, and each plate curving inwardly ut'each end, and a spring adjustably se-- cured to each bracket and pressing at its free end on the check strap.
2 A picker check for looms, including, in combination with a picker, a picker stick, a longitudinally movable endless check strap with which said picker stick engages near the ends of its strokes, supporting brackets for said strap at each side thereof, each bracket having a longitudinally extending 'plate With outwardly extending guide flanges, one above and the other below the check strap, and a fiat spring adjustahly secured to each bracket, and pressing at its free end on the check strap.
in testimony whereof, l have signed this specification.
