ATTORNEY WLLIAM F. MULLER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO PERFECT RE-FILLABLE FUSE, INC., OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION 0F NEW YORK.
REFILLABLE ELECTRIC FUSE.
Application filed March l, 1919.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WiLL'IAM F. MULLER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Brooklyn, Kings county, State of New York, lhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Refillable Electric Fuses,'of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements. in cartridge-fuses, the object being to provide an inexpensive yet eiiicient rellable fuse 0f this type, or in other words, to provide a casing to which a new fuse-wire can readily be attached after the fuse has blown. One of the main objects of my invention is to provide a novel combination of parts arranged for the ready detachment of a blown 'fuse and attachment of a new one in lieu thereof. f
ln the accompanying drawing, forming f part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view, partly in elevation, of a fuse embodying my improvement; and Y Fig. 2 is an'end View looking from the leftin Fig. 1, the plug and fuse-wire being omitted, the plate only being shown.
My improved fuse consists of a casingmember 4 having metallic terminals 5 and 6 suitably secured to the casing, one at each end thereof, to engage the fuse-clips of a circuit element. The casingt will be made out of suitable non conducting material. The terminal 5, at one end of the casing, is provided with a partition? intermediate its ends having an opening'8 for the passage of one end of a fuse-wire 9, The terminal 6 is also provided with a partition 10 having a relatively large opening 11 through which the other end of the fuselwire is passed to engage a removable plate 12 having an opening 13. The ends of the fuse 9 will be passed through the openings 8` and 13 and turned over as indicated. The threaded socket portion 14 of eachJterminal carries a threaded plug 15, to jam the fuse-wire against the partitions of the terminals to insure perfect contact.- Each-terminal 5 and 6 consists of a cylinder divided into two socket portions, having threads, by a parti- Speccation of Letters Patent.

tion-wall, which serves to virtually close the ends of the casing to which the terminals are applied. T he relatively large opening ll in the partition 10 of the terminal 6 serves two purposes, z'. e. that of facilitating the threading of the fuse-wire and also to permit any portion of a blown fuse to drop out should such portion be contained within the casing. The portion referred to will drop out lwhen the fuse is placed in a vertical position, provided terminal 6 is lowermost. A. fuse wire can be placed within the casing, after plugs 15 4and plate 12 have been removed, by passing said fuse through opening 11, in partition 10, of terminal 6,
and then through opening 8 in partition 7 end of the fuse 9, the fuse will be cut off' and turned over. After having performed the above operations, the plugs 15 will be placed in the terminals and screwed down firmly.
Having described my invention, what I claim is In a fuse, a casing, a terminal at one end thereof having a .threaded bore, a wall at the end of said bore and integral with said terminal having a relatively small opening. to receive one end of a fuse-wire, a terminal at the opposite end of said casing having a threaded bore, a wall at the end of said bore integral with said terminal having a relatively large opening for the passage of the opposite end of a fuse-wire, a removable loosely mounted plate adjacent the wall with the large opening having a relatively small opening, a fuse wire passing through said openings, and a threaded plug for each terminal arranged to force the ends of the fuse-wire against the wall of one terminal anl the removable plate in the other termina Signed at New York city, N. Y., this 27th day of February, 1919.
WILLIAM F. MULLER.
