' a new and improved hydrocarbon burner arranged to lnsure a thorough atomlzing of the crude oil or other liquid hydrocarbon fuel and to produce an effective mixing of the air and the atomized fuel to insure com plete combustion thereby utilizing the liquid fuel to the fullest advantage.
Another object is to insure the formation of a conical shaped flame.
Another object is to provide a hydrocarbon burner which is simple and durable in construction and composed of comparatively few parts, not liable to become disarranged during the use of the burner or by the heat incident to the burning fuel.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construtcion as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal central section of the improved hydrocarbon burner, the section being on the line 1-1 of Fig. 2;

F ig 3 is a similar view of the same on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
()n a suitably constructed frame is mounted a motor 11, of any approved construction,'and having its hollow shaft'12 connected by a coupling 13 with a hollow shaft let journaled in bearings 15 and 16, of which the bearing 15 is arranged in the inlet 17 of the casing 18 of a fan or a blower having its rotor 19 secured to the shaft 1 1. The fan casing 18 is attached to the frame 10. The central outlet 20 of the fan casing 18 is provided with a tube 21 supporting at its forward end a nozzle 25 which supports the bearing 16 of the shaft 14:. The latter extends centrally into the nozzle 25, and on the forward end of the shaft is secured a centrifugal atomizer in the form of a cup, forming withthe nozzle 25 an annular air passage 31. Into the atomizer- 30 discharges the forward endof a liquid fuel supply pipe 32 which extends through the hollow shafts liand 12 and connects with a supply pipe 33 extending from a tank or reservoir containing crude oil or other liquid fuel. The amount of liquid'fuel passing to the pipe 32 is controlled by a suitable needle valve 34 arranged at the junction of the pipes 32 and33.
The back of the atomizer 30' is provided with an auxiliary fan 40, the blades of which coact with the rear wall of the nozzle 25, and this auxiliary fan receives the compressed air discharged by the main fan 19 and increases the pressure of this air and discharges the air through the annular pas sage 31 from the moutlrof-the nozzle located slightly in the rear of the front end of the atomizer 30, as plainly shown in Fig. 1.
It is understood that when the motor 11 is running, the atomizer 30 and the fans 19 and 40 are rotated inunison, and the liquid fuel passing from the supply pipe 32 into the atomizer 30 is thrown outwardly by centrifugal force from the'forward end of the atomizer and there commingles with the compressed air passingout of'the forward end of the nozzle 25. The compressed air deflects the atomized fuel'and thoroughly commingles with the same to form a highly inflammable mixture to be burned in the furnace. It is also understood that the centrifugal action of the atomizer 30 is sufficiently great to insure a thorough atomizing of the liquid fuel, and "the atomized fuel effectively cOmmingles with the air under pressure discharged from the nozzle 25. It will further be noticed that by mounting the atomizer 30 and both fears 19 and 40 on the same shaft 14 a very "simple construction is provided and one not liable to get easily out of order. By providing two fans 19 and 40 the desired air pressure is obtained without providing an unduly large single fan. In this connection it is under stood that in practice the second fan 4:0 raises the air pressure about one ounce above the pressure obtained from the fan 19. by arranging the cup-shaped atomizer 30 and the nozzle 25 in the manner described, the inflammable mixture formed provides a courcally shaped flame.

A hydrocarbon burner, comprising a burner casing, a main fan wheel provided with a casing having its discharge connected with the inlet of the said burner casing, a burner mounted to turn in the said burner casing and provided with an auxiliary fan wheel coacting with the burner casing to increase the pressure of the air delivered by the burner casing, and a driven shaft carrying the said main fan wheel and thesaid burner. v

A hydrocarbon burner, comprising a nozzle, a centrifugal atomizer mounted to rotate within the said nozzle, a main fan having a casing provided with an outlet connected with the entrance of the said nozzle, an auxiliary fan forming part of the said centrifugal atomizer and coacting with the said nozzle to increase the pressure 0 comprising an the air deliveredby the said main fan to the said nozzle, means common to both the said main fan and the said atomizer and its fan to rotate the same in unison, and an air upply register having a casing open at the front and housing the said nozzleand atomizer, the rear of the said register casing being provided with an air entrance chamber having deflecting vanes.
