To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED RUssnLL Scor'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Enid, in the county ofGarfield and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cutting-Tools, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in cutting tools and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in the truing of crank pins and crank shafts of internal combustion engines or the like, and it is an object of this invention to provide a device of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the same may be readily and conveniently arranged upon the work and which operates to properly form such work upon rotation of the tool.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this general character adapted to be mounted upon and rotate around the work to be out and wherein the tool comprises a cutting member adjustable relative to the work.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a novel and improved tool of this character comprising two separable sections adapted to be disposed around the crank pin or other work and which are connected for unitary movement about the work and wherein one of the sections is provided with a cutting tool for engagement with the work.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this general character having means to permit the clearance of the shavings resulting from a cutting operation and wherein means are also provided whereby the cutting member may be conveniently lubricated.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and ar rangement of the several parts of my improved cutting tool whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accom panying drawings, wherein:

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, my improved tool comprises two sections A and B adapted'one to overlie the other and which sections are preferably angular in section so that when the sections A and B are assembled, a monkey wrench or other tool may be engaged therewith to impart the requisite rotation thereto.
The opposed faces of the sections A and B have extending entirely thereacross theregistering recesses l and 2, respectively, and each. of which is substantially semicircular in form and of a radius so that the sections A and B will snugly fit upon a crank pin, crank shaft or other work with which thesame is employed.
The sections A and B are maintained in assembled relation through the medium of the studs 3 secured to the section A at opposite sides of the recess 1 therein. The studs are of length to extend through the openings 4 formed in the section B at opposite sides of the recess 2 therein and to extend beyond such. section B when the sections A and B are in assembled relation. Threaded upon the extended portions of the studs 3 are the clamping nuts The wall of the recess 2 in the section B to one side of its center is provided with a groove or channel 6 having its side walls a straight and in parallelism and with its bottom wall Z) flat and disposed on a slight incline from one end to the other. In com- The wall of the recess 2 of the section B immediately adjacent the groove or channel 6 is provided with a shallow channel 8 extending entirely therealong and which serves to afford a discharge to permit the desired clearance of the shavings produced during a cutting or working operation. This channel 8 also has in communication therewith the openings or ports 9 extending through the outer portion of the section B to afford means for delivering oil or other lubricant to the cutting member M to facilitate its function.
The cutting member M snugly fits between the walls a and b of the groove or channel 6 and has its outer or working face transversely rounded on substantially the same radius as the recess 2 and the high longitudinal edge 0 of such face of the cutting member M constitutes a knife edge to operate upon the work.
Interposed between the wall 7) of the groove or channel 6 is the wedge 10 which, upon longitudinal movement thereof, operates to adjust the member M, or more par ticularly the cutting edge 0 thereof, relative to the work 'as the occasions of practice may require. v
Carried bythe inner face of the member M substantially centrally thereof is an outstanding stud 11 which extends through the longitudinallydisposed slot-12 formed in the wedge 10 and through the opening 7 in the section B. The stud l1 terminates exteriorly of the section B and has threaded thereupon the clamping nut let so that the member M may be held in its desired adjustments toward or from the work.
A bearing C is provided for the reception of the crank pin (not shown) and this bearinghas rounded portions Xat its opposite ends, and in order to compensate for this formation, the ends of the working face of the member M, together with the ends of the recesses 2-, are correspondingly rounded, as indicated at 15. The section A is provided with an enlarged opening 16 in communication with and preferably at right angles to the recess 1 therein, and this open ing 16 permits visual access to the work during an operation so that it can be readily determined when a cutting operation has been completed or the bearing turned true.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a cutting tool constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
1. Ina cutting tool, the combination with a body comprising a pair of separable members arranged one upon the other, the opposed faces of said members having registering semi-circular recesses extending thereacross to receive the work, the wall of the recess of one member at one side of its transverse center being provided with a channel extending longitudinally thereof, said wall of the recess at the opposite side of its transverse center being provided with a longitudinally disposed clearance channel semicircular in cross section, the first channel being rectangular in cross section, of a cutting tool rectangular in cross section adjustably mounted in the rectangular channel and provided with parallel cutting edges, said cutting tool being removably reversible in the rectangular channel, whereby'either of its cutting edges may coincide with the longitudinal center of the semi-circular recess of said wall, and means for holding the two members in assembled relation.
2. In a cutting tool, the combination with a body comprising two separable members arranged one upon the other, the opposed faces of said member having registering recesses extending transversely thereacross to receive the work, the wall of the recess of one member having a longitudinal channel rectangular in cross section, of a cutting tool rectangular in cross section, removably reversible in said rectangular channel, said cutting tool being adjustably fixed in said channel and provided with parallel longitudinal cutting edges, said rectangular channel being formed in said wall at one side of its transverse center, whereby the tool may be reversed so that either one of its cutting edges may coincide with the transverse center of the wall of said recesses, said wall having a clearance channel semi-circular in cross section at the opposite side of its trans verse center of the wall, and means for hold ing the members in assembled relation.
