Description
.1. HOFFMAN,
Hoisting Apparats.
Patented Dec.
JOSEPH HOFFMAN, OF LEBANON, NEW JERSEY.
vIMPROVEMENT IN HOISTING APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 134,141, dated December 24, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J osEPH HOFFMAN, of Lebanon, Hunterdon county, State of New Jersey, have invented certain Improvements in Hoistin g Apparatus, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my present invention is to provide for certain improvements in apparatus for raising and carrying Weights or heavy bodies for which Letters Patent No. 117,778, were granted to me under date August 8, 1871.
In order to stop the carriage at any desired point upon the track, for the purpose of raising or lowering a Weight,I have provided for a movable bumper, having an incline and catch attached thereto and secured to the track by means of bolts.
In order to describe my invention more fully, I refer to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specication.
Figure I is a side view of a track embodying my invention. Fig. II is a plan view of the same. Fig. III is a vertical cut section, showing the carriage locked to the bumper.
A A are the tracks. B is the movable bumper, fastened to the tracks AA by means of bolts C C and holes b b in the track to shift these bolts when required. On each side of the bumper B are placed India-rubber buffers D D', for the purpose of preventing a jar when the carriage E strikes the bumper. In the middle of the bumper is an` incline, F, having a groove, G, cnt into the same, the lower part of which forms a catch, a. A carriage, E, having a lever, H, and hook I, held in position by aid of the catches m' m and springs o, being placed on the track, in being moved toward the bumper B, strikes the rubber buffers D D', and, on coming in contact with the bumper, the hook I, being raised at the same time, drops into the catch a, which holds the carriage in a' xed position, at the same time causing the lever H to be raised, Which again causes the catches m m to release their hold upon a pulley containing the Weight.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to claim- The movable bumper B with the incline F,
groove G, catch ,butl'ers D D', bolts C C, and
holes b b, in combination with the track A A', and carriage E with lever H, hook I, catches m m, and springs o, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
JOSEPH HOFFMAN. Witnesses:
