GASTER ATTACHMENT FOR STOVE-LEGS.
Application filed October 17, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosErH O. SABOM, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Superior, in the county of Douglas and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Caster Attachments for Stove-Legs, of which the following is a specification.
My inventionrelates to an attachment for stove legs, a purpose of my invention being the provision of an attachment for supporting a caster on a stove leg in such manner that the caster will extend below and support the leg to facilitate the movement of the stove from place to place.
It is also a purpose of my invention to provide an attachment of the above described character which is capable of being moved to an inactive position so that when the stove has been moved to its destination, the caster will no longer support the leg and the latter will function as before to prevent accidental movement of the stove.
I will describe one form of stove leg and one form of attachment embodying my in vention and will then point out the novel features thereof in claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a view, showing in side elevation one form of stove leg having applied thereto one form of attachment embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the stove leg shown in Fig. 1 with the attachment in active position;
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 with the attachment in inactive position; and
Fig. 4: is a transverse sectional view, taken on the line r-4L of Fig. 2.
Referring specifically to the drawings, and particularly to Fig. 1, S designates a stove of conventional form, and L a conventional form of stove leg for supporting the same. As illustrated to advantage in Figs. 2 and 3, the stove leg L is hollowed out and curved inwardly adjacent its lower end, as at 15, and then outwardly, as at 16, at its lower end so as to form a substantial support for the stove.
The attachment embodying the subjectmatter of my invention, comprises an arm designated generally at A including a rounded shank portion which tapers into a flat shank portion 18, the latter being curved in the form of an arc to conform to the con- Specification of Letters Patent.

tour of the curved portion 15 of the leg. The circumference of the rounded shank portion 17 is such as to fit within the lower curved portion 16 of the leg so that in the active position of the leg it fits snugly against the inner wall of the leg, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The free end of the fiat shank portion 18 is formed with an open ing to loosely receive a bolt B, the head of which latter is permanently secured within the curved portion 15 of the leg L. The shank of the bolt B extends from the inner side of the leg and threadedly receives a winged nut N, such nut being adapted to embrace the shank portion 18 so as to force the same against the leg and to thereby secure the shank in active or inactive position. The round shank portion 17 is bored longitudinally as shown in dash lines in Figs. 2 and 3, so as to receive the supporting pin 19 of a caster bracket K which car ries a wheel W. As illustrated to advantage in Fig. 4, the arm A is bored transversely to snugly receive a locking pin 20, the intermediate portion of such pin being disposed within an annular groove 21 formed in the supporting pin 19, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3. By this arrangement, it will be seen that the pin 20 functions to lock the supporting pin 19 within the rounded portion 17 of the shank A, at the same time allowing free rotation of the pin 19 so that the caster as a whole may be free to move to any position during movement of the stove from place to place.
In the active position of the arm A, the caster wheel W extends below the lower end of the leg L and because of the curvature of the arm A.,'tll8 latter coacts with the leg L to effectively support the stove, and at the same time to permit ready movement of the stove, as will be understood. After the stove has reached its destination, and the casters are no longer needed, the attachment is shifted to the position shown in Fig. 3, wherein the arm A is inverted so that the caster wheel l/V no longer supports the leg. The movement of the attachment to the inactive position may be readily accomplished by removing the nut N and consequently removing the arm'A, whereupon the latter is shifted to the elevated position. In this inactive position of the caster it will be noted that the leg L completely houses the same, so that it cannot be seen from the outside, thereby presenting a leg of neat appearance With the attachment ready to be moved to the active position When required.
Although I have herein shown and described one form of stove leg and one form of attachment, each embodying my invention, it is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be made herein Without departing from the spirit of the invention or the spirit, and scope of the appended claims.
Havingthus described my invention, I claim:
1. In combination, a stove leg having curved portions, a bolt carried by said leg, an arm mounted on said bolt, and curved to conform to the contour of a portion of said leg, a caster carried by said arm, and a nut for confining said arm on said bolt and for causing the arm to embrace the curved portion of said leg in such manner that the arm acts as the supporting frame for a major'part of the Weight of the leg.
2. In combination, a stove leg having reversely curved portions, a bolt carried by said leg, an arm curved to conform to the contour of either of said curved portions, said arm being removably fitted onlsaid bolt and capable of occupying active and inactive positions, in which it contacts With one or the other of said curved portions, a nut for securing said arm on said bolt, and a castercarried by said arm.
