Application filed June 26, 1919.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Gus J ORDAHN, a citizen oi the United States, and a resident of Palm Beach, in the county of Palm Beach and State of Florida, have invented a new and Improved Floating Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to life preservers, or floating devices, and has for an object to provide a device wherein a proper supporting member provided when wanted and a light package when not wanted. 7
Another object is to provide a device which may be tied around the body or toned in a number or ways without affecting its usefulness.
A. further object of the invention is to provide a floating device for amusement purposes or life saving purposes which may be folded into a minimum sized package when not in use, but may be greatly distended in use.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a view of a figure with an embodiment of the invention applied thereto.
Fi 2 a side view of the device shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross section through Fig. 2 on line 33.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates the body of the de- Specification of Letters Patent.

vice which. is formed with a closed end 2 and an open end 3. The body may be made from any desired material, as for instance some good grade of textile fabric. The device may be made of different shapes, but is preferably formed from a rectangular piece of cloth folded longitudinally along a central line and then the opposite edges connected by a line of stitching 4. End is then closed by a line of stitching 5. This produccs a long, slender, straight alled bag. When it is desired to use the device the body is first thoroughly wet and then inflated. by blowing with the mouth, or by waving the device in the air with the open end 3 facing the direction of movement. After the device has been inflated it may be secured to the body in a number of different ways, as for instance by being tied with a cord, or by passing the device around the body of the person using the device and tying the ends as shown in Fig. 1.
\Vhat I claim is:
A device to be used in learning to swim consisting of a long flexible open ended tube adapted to encircle the body of a wearer, and relatively narrow whereby when blown up its ends may be tied together thus serving the double purpose of holding the device in place 011 a wearer and detaining the air as and for the purposes set forth.
