AUTOMATIC PLATE-VALVE.

Be it known that I, ROBERT MEYER, a subject of the German Emperor, residing .at
be properely held in position and guided in its opening and closing movements, without any recesses for the valve in the valve seat, thus permitting the valve seat to be formed and finished as a plain surface.
For a full understanding of the invention a detailed description of a construction embodying the invention in a preferred form will now be given in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part "of this specification, and the features forming the invention then specifically pointed out in the claims.

Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the valve with a portion of the cap broken away to show one of the ports in the cap.

Referring to the drawings, A is the valve seat, shown as of circular form and having the series of straight ports a, each of which is controlled by the plate valve B, which opens against the cap or abutment C, the
latter being shown as having a series of v lows ports I) out of line with the valve.
Valves B are held in position and guided without recesses or projections on the valve seat A, the latter thus being formed and finished as a plain surface co-acting with the valves in their closed position. The abutment surface of the cap between the recesses 1 is shown as formed straight for convenience of manufacture, the open valve bearing against it only over a portion of its surface, but it will be understood that this is not essential, and this abutment surface may be curved and the open valve bear against it throughout.
The'operation of the construction will be clear from the drawings without extended description, it being understood that the valves B lie fiat upon the valve seat below the ports a innormal position, as shown in Figs. 1 to 3, and bend downwardinbpening to the position shown in Fig. l, their opening movement being limited by the abutment surface of cap C, and that the valves are held in position and guided in their opening and closing movements by the walls of the recesses l.
It will be understood, that the invention may be embodied in other. constructions than that shown, many modifications being possible without departing from the invention as defined by the claims.
What I claim is: 1. The combination of a valve seat having one or more ports, one or more thin elastic plates forming valves and having both'ends free to permit bending of the entire valve. in opening, and a cap provided with means at opposite ends of the valve for holding V the valve in position and permitting the bending movement, said valve seat being. formed without recesses. for the valve.
2. The combination of a valve seat having 'one or more ports, one or more thin elastic plates ,forming valves and having both ends free to permit bending of the entire valve in opening, and a cap provided with recesses receiving the ends of the valve and curved valve, said valve seat being formed without recesses for the valve.
3. The combination of a valve seat having one or more ports, one or more thin elastic plates forming valves and having both ends or inclined to permit the bending of the out recesses valve .and a cap having a V valve being received between the ends of free to permit bending of the entire valve in opening, and a cap provided with recesses receivingthe ends of the valve and curved or inclined to permit the bending of the valve, said valve seat being formed with- .for the valve, and means for holding the valve in position sidewise.
4:. A valve seat having'aplain surface, an elongated valve of elastic flexible material, and a cap having a concave recess, the said extending across the concave recess and at both ends loosely received between the ends of said recess and said seat.
5. A valve seat having a plain surface, an elongated valve of elastic flexible material, concave recess, the said said recess and said seat and extending longitudinally across the. concave recess, and
there being a clearance between said valve and the bottom faces of the ends of said recess when said vvalve is in normal closed position.
6. A valve seat having a plain surface with one or more ports, one or more thin elastic plates forming, valves and having both ends free to permit bending of the entire valve in opening," and means at opposite ends of the valve for holding the valve in position and permitting the bending movement.
