' To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN F. KELLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elkins, in the county of RandolphA and State of West Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Daubers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to blacking daubers especially adapted to be used for applying blacking to shoes and the like and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the inventionis the provision of a dauber of the character stated in which the blacking paste will be delivered to the bristles of the brush for application to the foot wear whereby the same may be polished in the ordinary manner thus obviating the necessity of soiling thehands when applying blacking to the foot wear.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a brush or dauber of the character stated in which theblacking paste or substance is held in a reservoir carried upon the stock of the brush so that the said substance may be dispensed into -the bristles offthe. brush for application thereof to the foot wear, the reservoir being formed from compressible or collapsible metal thus permitting the substance to be ejected therefrom as occasion requires.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the dauber;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same;
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View of the same cut on the line 3-73 of F ig. 2.
The dauber comprises a body 1 one end of which may be in the form of a handle. Bunches of bristles 2 are mounted upon the body l and the nipple 3 is mounted upon the said bodybetween the bristles 2 as best indicated in Fig. l of the drawing. The said nipple 3 is substantially cone-shaped with its larger end connected with the body l and its smaller end approximately disposed centrally with relation to the bristle tuft. An L-shaped pipe 4. is mounted upon the top side of the body l and one end of the said pipe 4 communicates with the upper end of the nipple 3.
,A casing 5 is pivotally connected at one Aor blacking thereof to said handle member,

end with the body l and the edge portionsI of the said casing are adapted to fit snugly along the edges of the body l when the said casing is in a closed position upon the body. The casing 5 is provided at its top side with a longitudinally disposed slot 6 and the said casing is provided at its side por-A tion with longitudinally disposed slots 7. A roller 8 is provided at its ends with gudgeons 9 which are received within the slots 7 and the roller is adapted to bearY uponl a tube 10 which contains the blacking paste. One end of the tube lO is connected with the pipe 4 and by inserting the finger or thumb through the slot 6, the roller 8 may be moved along the casing 5 whereby the tube l10 is compressed and the thereof is forced from the end of the said tube through the pipe 4 and the nipple 3 into the bristles 2 of the brush. y
After the tube l0 has been compressed to such an extent as to force all of the paste therefrom, the free end portion of the casing 5 may be swung in an upward direction with relation to the body l whereby the emptied tube may be detached from the pipe 4 and a filled tube substituted in the place thereof.
From the foregoing description 'taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that a dauber of simple and durable structure is provided and that the same may be conveniently used for ape plyng paste to foot wear without waste.
avlng described thev invention what is A brush comprising a flat elongated handle member, a casing pivoted at one end being provided at its side with longitudinallyv disposed slots, the free end of the 'casing being frictionally engaged with the end of lthe handle member, a roller having gudgeons received in the slots, a pipe carried by the handle member and housed under the casing and adapted to be connected with a co1- vlapsible tube, bristles carried by thehandle member and a' nipple connected with the pipe and leading into the assemblage of briIstles. h I
