'Be it known that I, HERMAN REINL, citizen of the United States, residing at Secaucus, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Locks,` of which the following is a speciication.

A further object of the invention is to provide a lock of the classdesoribed which may be readily and conveniently applied to ya window and which whenapplied will present an extremely neat appearance.
A further object of the inventionis to provide a lock of the class described which i is of highly simplified construction, cheap to manufacture, and desirable in use.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.

In' the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodi- Vment `of the invention, the numerals 5 and 6 designate upper and lower sash which, as usual, are adapted for vertical movement.
As illustrated in Fig. 1, the improved lock includes a rectangular casing or housing 7 having its sides 8 extended and bent outwardly lto form attaching flanges 9. The
Y attaching flanges 9 may be secured to the upper side of the sash 6 by screwsrl() or other suitable fastening devices.
With reference to Fig. 2, it will be noted that a barrel 11 is extended centrally through the casing and is secured tothe 4front and rearsides 12 and 13 of the same.
The barrel 11- supports a sliding bolt 14 adapted to be received within an opening 15 in a keeper 16. The keeper 16 may,.fory

As illustratedin Fig. 2, the keeper 16 is constructed from a solid piece of metal andthe opening 15 inthe same is spaced some distance from the edges of the keeper so that access to the opening l5 by a smallvtool is prevented. A knob 2O of any desired shape is arranged exteriorly of the casing and is provided with a vertical stem 21 extendingthrough an elongated slot 21 in the casing 7 and having threaded engagement with the intermediate portion of the bolt. The barrel, as illustrated in Fig. 3, is also provided with a longitudinal slot 23 which permits the free movement of the stem with the bolt. In the manufacture of the device, the knob 20 may have an ornamentaldesign imprinted on its face for pre-` senting a neat appearance to the lock.
As Villustrated in Figs. 2 and 3, a laterally projecting arm or trigger 24 has threaded engagement with the intermediate portion of the bolt 11i and is vadaptedto be engaged V7o tially the same configuration as the casing by a latch plate or` arm 24 whereby the bolt may be retained in a retracted position. The laterally projecting trigger or arm 24 is provided with a reduced head 25 which is adapted to be received within an opening or locking recess 26 when the bolt is in its rearward or retracted position. The reduced head 25 forms a pair of shoulders 25 whichY serve to limit the downward pivotal movement cf `the latch. The locking plate or latch 24 is piv'otally connected at its forward end portion to an anchoring member 27 through the medium of interfitting hinge barrels 28.' A coil spring 29 is` arranged between the latch 24 and the anchoring plate 27 and has its terminal arms 80 anchored to the plates 24 and 27 by solder or other W'hen the vbolt 14 is moved rearwardly by a corresponding movement of the knob 20, the head 25 of the trigger is received within the recess 26 and the bolt is, therefore, held in a retracted position by the latch 24. The tension of the coil spring efficiently retains the latch 24 in engagement with the trigger 24.
As illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, the rear end portion of the catch 24 isextended rearwardly through an opening 31 in the rear side of the housing and is adapted to be V4manually elevated for releasing the head 25 from the opening or locking recess 26. lnstantaneously upon the release of the trigger 24', the bolt is moved forwardly by the coil spring 179 and is received within the opening 15.
In'the modified form of invention illustrated in Fig. 4, the latch 24 is provided with' a longitudinal groove 82 which slidably receives one terminal arm 30 of the coil Y spring 29. The groove 32 securely retains the terminal arms of the coil spring in position and eliminates any binding of the spring as a result of the pivotal movement of the plate with relation to the coil spring.
In the practice of the invention the casing 7 and keeper 16 are applied to the adjacent ends of the window sections as illustrated in Fig. 1. l/Vhen it is desired to 'leave the window unlocked or open, the bolt 14 is drawn rearwardly by a correspondingmovement of the'knob 20 and is held in its retracted position by the latch 24. When the lower sash 6 has been lowered and it is Y s knob 2O is drawn rearwardly by a manual movement for releasing the bolt 14 from the keeper.
As illustrated in Fig. 2, the barrel 11 is provided with la longitudinally extending slot 33 which permits the free movement of the trigger 24 with the bolt 14.
It is to be understood that the form of the invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that such minor changes in arrangement and construction of parts may be made as will remain withinthe spirit of the invention and the scope of what is claimed'.
